WTF, why strip it to sell it? No pictures? Too bad, I like these old Carys, ultimate pimp machine. If I hit the powerball I would own one just because.

I remember "The Great McCarthy" episode from season one...in fact, I have it on VHS...if the tape is still intact. Cary Power Boats was on Thunder Boat Row ...NE 188th street in North Miami Beach just across the canal from Magnum. Looking at a big Cary was like looking at a cross between a Donzi and a Magnum...same roots.

That was the boat that raced don Johnson in the show.
A great looking boat

Those Cary 50's are cool, but I woudn't want one, my friend had one for sale for probably 4-5 years and just couldn't get rid of it.. it was priced fine, just no one wanted it. I assume people didn't know what it was.

That Cary 50 was impressive. I always wondered at the wisdom of the four big block arrangement. Seemed like an awful handful.

A quick search on the boat yielded this interesting post made by a member of a yachting forum:

After spending tons of money on the drives/gimbles/motors, I never could get everything to run right for more than half an hour before something blew up. I would strongly recommend steering clear of the gas powered 50's.

Years later (06 or early 07) when the remaining assets of the company were liquidated, I purchased the turbine powered 70 but when I got it the turbine was out and frozen from salt water ingestion and the boat wouldn't get up on plane with the remaining deutz powered water jets. Another goofy set up that was near worthless. After the auction I did get a ride in a 50 that had big MTU's and arnesons, that boat wasn't finished nicely but was fast. This power package finally got the boat up to the speeds where the hull ran the way it was supposed to.

These big boats do need the torque only a large diesel can provide.

somebody above said "that's a lot of hardware" wow.
