312 fastech

looking for opinions on this boat. I am considering one of these as my next boat. What should I look for. I owned a baja and also looking at the 29 Outlaws too. How fast does the 312 run with 454 mags. anything to look out for?

I had a 1998 w/ 502's. I liked it but it was not a popular model (people stepped up to the 353 instead). Best my dream-o-meter showed was 78 but the GPS was reading 74. 70-71 was possible 90% of the time. The 454 mags will likely be 1-2 mph slower.

I researched the F-312 and B-29 extensively before settling on my 292. Two of my friends have Baja 29's with 454 Mags and I know of a 312, but with 7.4 MPI's. The bajas hit 70. The 312 tops at 63-65, all speeds gps. A formula 312 with mags should match or slightly beat the baja 29. The Baja is 6800# dry and rides alittle on the flighty side at top speed even with K-planes. The Formula is 8000# dry and is rock solid. It really just comes down to price difference, the two models are very close...I'd like either one, but am completely content with my 292.

I think if you compare the fit and finish of the Formula to the Baja the Formula will win out. I've seen a few 29 outlaws around the same age as my 292, and it wasn't even a far comparison. Of course a lot of it has to do with how you take care and maintain your boat inside and out, but I couldn't believe the difference.

A lot of people I talk to say the 312 was probably the best speed boat Formula ever made. Just a well built and solid boat all around.

boat for boat will the formula be as quick as the baja? If anyone knows of any 312s with mags, I am looking to spend upwards of $40k on a boat before spring.

I had a 97 312 before I got my 353 and with the same power and it maxed out right around 70

What will a 312 run with pair of 502s?

What years where the 312 built?

I have a '98 312 with twin 502's. It really is a solid boat. 3-5 foot seas with no problem at 45-50mph. Just skip across the top of them when you're planed right.
Top speed on GPS was 76 so far. It was perfectly smooth water though. I have Bravo 1 30P props on there also.
I've only had the boat a few months and I love it. My friends all have different boats, Sunsations, Donzi's and Fountains.
I still the like the ride in mine the best.

Hey guys just purchased a 312, was wondering if anyone could help me with the step dimensions. Need to add to my trailer and hoist bunks so the boat does not rest on the step.

Thanks

Rick

I had that data long ago but couldn't tell you where it is now. I got it by asking Formula.....they sent me the boat specs in 24 hours that listed steps, center of gravity and everything else I needed.

It's the 31 listed here, page 4.
