1984 Formula One, fun little boat!
3 Attachment(s)
Thought I'd share some pics of this little Formula One I just picked up. (local craigslist find) It's '84 Formula One (17') a buddy had one years back, always liked it as it was similar to a Donzi Classic with the molded cabin liner and snap out upholstery.
It's an original owner, fresh water off a small lake in New Hampshire. Merc 185 V6, 400 hrs. It had not been run since '96, spent several days cleaning and waking up the motor/drive etc and she fired right up. Got to clock 8 hrs on it before winterizing. Anyone else got one? |
BTW, I'm looking for an original tach, square bezel. Also, any sources for the Formula logo and stripe kit?
Thanks, Kurt |
Familiar with them and have a bit of seat time in one. Was looking for an '84 before I went with my Power Play(Powerquest) 185 for a knock around small boat. Boat is typical Formula. Handles more than you would expect GREAT build quality for a small boat. Fiberglass Liner/Floor (nice touch for a small boat of that age) and needs more power! haha. 220hp Merc 4.3 gets that boat moving. 350 is about all I would ever want in one. Cool little boats

Thanks, Kurt http://www.ebay.com/itm/FORMULA-BOAT...s_Gear&vxp=mtr I think for the tach you just have to keep your eyes peeled on eBay or Maybe give Great Lakes Skipper a call and see if they have one. I know they have the matching speedo style to what you are looking for. |
I have the tach you are looking for!!

A little compound and wax in the spring and your all set, a little cheaper than running the Cig around:drink:
Great little ride good luck |

Great, thinking about stripping off all decals/stripes and wet sanding/buffing the hulll sides. Can you do a a stripe kit too?
Thanks, Kurt Something similar to what's on it now or something different? |

Great, I'll get going on removing all stripes and logos. We are going to try to clean up the hull sides with wet sanding, paint if I have to. I'd like you to install the stripes so I'll drag it down to your place if that works the best.
Kurt :drink: You want to do it this winter or early spring? It should fit in my garage! |

Thought I'd post the progress on this little project. Spent a day buffing the entire boat with 3M restorer wax, she cleaned up way better than expected. Got the mechanicals squared away with new bellows, gimbal bearing, drive service/water pump, new starter, battery and full tune-up. Had a new hatch (teak from factory) made that's teak with holley inlay. The next step is a new stereo and she should be ready for the spring. Sure been a fun easy project.:drink: Here's a pic from last night.

Biggus,
I just purchased a 1981 formula one from New Jersey, I don't believe it has the original gauges so I was wondering if you knew what brand yours are? Also, I don't have all the gauges you have. I have a blank gauge on the port side (clock and cig?). Is that the same brand as the gauges? I also have a blank gauge at the corner of the starboard set of "L" gauges ( I hope you understand what I mean by that). If you could help me out with those answers that'd be great! Thanks, Jer |
I have 2 complete sets off of my 85 302 they are the same gauges Biggus has. Let me know what you are missing and I would be happy to help.
|
None of my gauges are the square gauges like in the pics so I was wondering what brand they were so I could find a whole set. I'm basically looking to see what gauges I'm missing (the 2-3 I mentioned above) and what brand those are....I have gauges now, but they have a blue 3 piece emblem at the bottom in the shape of an "M" so I assume mercruiser gauges but want to confirm
|
The square gauges are Medallion. I have the same ones in my '86 206. I believe the round ones are Medallion too. I looked in the Formula 81-82 brocures and it looks like the larger boats had the square medallions while the smaller ones had round ones. The "M" doesn't stand for Mercruiser.

Ah, perfect! Thank you, sir!
That helps me a ton! |
Kaama302,
Would you happen to have the clock for this set??? |
