272 tie bar
Anybody know where I can get one for bravo drives?
Thanks |
Lots of places make them. You can get one from WMP, Laythem, CP Performance. I am sure I am missing some but look around you will find some.

You will need to know your drive centers. That is the measurement btwn your drives. You can take it at the skeg if you want (make sure your skegs are not bent.

Thanks for the info. I was hoping to find a used one, but if not then I guess new will work.

Unstable, what do you think about fabricating some. I have a 272 also and need a tie bar too, just NOT paying $600 for something I probably can make for $200 or less. I have two friends at work with maching shops at home and we have been chatting. how much were you hoping to spend?
maybe we make two and cut the setup and design time in 1/2?? we were thinking about an annodized alluminum solid cylinder section with threaded ends and heim joints. then bridgeport machine some brackets for the drive ends. what do others think of this design? they don't have to be stump pullers as many boats have nothing there in the first place . I stripped out a drive pivot bolt this year and had to helicoil it, convinced me that it is time to get a tie bar. |
Stainless is the only way that I would go. You would be amazed at the stress that those bars can be under on landing. Alluminum will help with a outward force but will do very little for a inward one.

Port trim
Please excuse me for posting here, but since I also own a 1984 272, I thought you can help me find the plastic rectangular trim that surrounds the port holes. I tried Formula help line and they couldn't help me. Dimensions are 15.5 x 5.5 Thanks

Re: 272 tie bar
I've got an older used TRS tie bar--it's 33 1/2 on center of the connection joint. It's stainles but got painted so it would clean up ok.
Let me know if you're interested. |

call Chuck or anyone is c/s @ Formula and leave a voice mail - he'll call you back with the drive spacing, 260-724-1412 good luck |

Thats the same as my 311 per Formula. If it wasn't for the silent thunder platform you could just measure from the middle of transom assemblies |
Re: 272 tie bar
I would call IMCO direct. I did about 5 years ago and no problems. Looks great and STRONG. Welds were as nice as I have ever seen.

Re: 272 tie bar
I ordered one from Eddie Marine, looks ok I will know more after I get it in my hands. $370 How bad did I do. If real bad don't tell me

Re: 272 tie bar
I think same I paid last year, I shopped and price was fair. Some are made for boats that do 300mph and obviously over kill for mine under 70mph.
Note; be careful - A friend mechanic was helping me one day and while raising one drive by itself i yelled to stop while I was at transom a couple times until he did, he bent one of the ends. |
