speed for 382
Whats the thoughts on speed for 2003 Fastech 382 with 500's boat has extension boxes. Thinking of upgrading!!!!
|
I moved from a 312 (502's) to a 382 (Procharged 500's). Loved the extra room/ride but you should know it's more like an Excursion vs the Mustang. I sold the Prochargers and built 540's and still ran in the mid-upper 80's (95+ with the Prochargers). What your considering will likely be a 74-76 mph boat on a good day. I say go for it!!!
|
I have a 99 382 with boxes and I get about 77 gps in fresh water on a good day by myself with just enough gas to get back to the marina. I am considering upgrading to something faster if I can fnd a home for mine and something with 700's

clear your pm box. My 382 with 525's can be bought for less then most 500 boats. Jeff [email protected] BTW my boat will run 71-73 loaded with a/c,genset and 4 adults 3/4 tank of fuel. 73-75 lightly loaded |
Bondo my buddy has a 2003 w/525's and he runs 81-82 mph. mine w/500EFI's runs 72-74
What's up with your top end? What props and RPM's are you running. |

dyno'ed 630hp/700tq fully dressed (seawater pump to my CMI's) spinning labbed 30's to 5,650 rpms. However, I usually ran labbed 32's or 28 full size maximus pulling 82-83 at 5,300. Reason: 3,500 was 58 on GPS!!! :)
I think you are always better having a, let's say, 650 to 700 HP narturally aspirated engine, instead of a , for example 500's with blower putting out 650 to 700 hp... How much was the cost of your 540 - 630 hp vs the cost of blowers ? |

why did you get rid of your blowers ? ''blown engines'' problem I guess?

How much was the cost of your 540 - 630 hp vs the cost of blowers ? In hindsight I should have refreshed the engines and had them re-tuned to try and get the rich fuel issue under control. With us doing everything but boring the block I still spent over $20K....but offset that some by selling the Prochargers. Heads, cam, crank/rods/pistons, even the fuel system had to be replaced. What really SUCKED was the injectors had been upgraded so we used them.....and 2 hours after running the engines one of them "blew up". Turns out 2 of the injectors weren't firing at WOT so another rebuild was required. BTW: The boat ran 98 with the Prochargers |
