242 ls
ive got one for sale with aluminum trailer
|
I have been reading here off and on, but I figured it was time to register. Anyway, I am also looking for a 223 or 242. If I get my choice I want a red 242 SS with a 454 mag and the split throttle/shift controls. I may not be able to find that so I would also consider other colors, engines, models, etc. If anyone has something or knows of one around let me know. Thanks.

If you are looking for a 242ls mine is for sale its sitting on a 2007 phoenix trailer clolor matched to the boat with disc brakes on all 4 axles. YOU WILL NOT find a cleaner boat, originally a small block and alpha set up, currently has a bravo one and 400hp 454. Bolster seating, split controls, and silent thunder swim platform here is a link to a couple pictures in the water. 15,000 takes it. pm if interested.

I'm not sure if I want to get in to a twin engine boat or not. It's just so damn cramped in there to work on them. I am also hoping to get a freshwater boat if possible. There was one about a half hour from me, but it already sold.

I like the one with twins, pretty sweet boat, bounced around for the last few years, find out why, I'll keep an eye open,
|
|
I have been thinking about it more and I have decided I really don't need twins. If there was a super clean boat at an unbeatable price I would have to consider it. But where I boat and what I'm going to do with it, a single would be better.

I have an 88 242 LS that I have listed off and on this year.
11K. It is in Utah though. It has around 450 original hours. 454 365HP Mag w/177 Weiand Blower pushing 4 lbs boost. I boat at 5,100'-7,660' so it basically compensates for lost power from altitude. Blk, Mauve, Terq (Miami I think they call it) I'm the 3rd owner. Captains not Bolsters, Single controls not duals. Great Shape always stored in covered storage. [email protected] |
I just want to say thanks to everyone who has responed to this thread with information and leads. I haven't bought a 242 yet, but I am stronly considering a few. When I find the right boat I am ready to buy. I have found a few that will work, but they are far enough away that I am hesitating because of time and transportation costs. I still havent found exactly what I want, but I'm not giving up. If I find exactly what I want I am willing to travel a distance to get it, but I figure I don't want to spend the extra travel money to get "almost" what I want.
|
Take your time, be patient, it will come up, the fact that your willing to travel is a big plus for me i was willing to do missouri and east, just because alotta formula's at loto.

I also agree wait it out and if possible wait for a CLEAN 90/91. They have some different options and changes that the earlier boats didn't have which were nice touches. Nothing that I would say would be a deal breaker or worth more in price but if looking at equivalent boats go newer.

There was a CLEAN 223 that was sold locally up that way recently. I know of a couple 242's up there but don't think many are for sale. Honestly if you are set on a clean 242 that is pretty rare I would see if the black SR-1 down in CT is still around. I can check it out if you want as I spent a bit of time around 242's and have know the difference between mint and junk (one of the cleanest 242's out there used to be up on the river). Where on the river you located?

242 SS 454 Magnum Bravo I Low hours Red and white graphics and interior Split throttle and shift controls Aluminum bunk trailer Very clean and cheap.....hahaha I found what I wanted early this spring, but I had to sell my Carver before I was ready to buy. Now I'm ready and actively searching. I would even consider a really nice 223. I have a friend with a 223 that I love and borrow all the time. That's why I decided on a 242. His boat is great, but I would like just a bit more room. I don't really need the size for the water I travel in, but it would be nice. I also I want the 242 SS for the cockpit room and extra seat. I don't need bolsters because I plan on using it for more of a day boat/cruiser than a wave jumping/performance boat. |
I think a 242ss is going to be perfect. I have been on a 223 and a 242 in the river....242 hands down rides totally different in the days when it is rolling 2-4 but still sunny and you want to hit the river. The SS boats offer up an ENORMOUS amount of space while maintaing the smaller sport boat feel with a cuddy. Will keep my eyes peeled there are a couple of 242ss floating around the capital region but I think again they were priced a little high
|
Thanks, I appreciate that.

Little older and you would have to live with yellow and the gray interior but looks relatively clean |
Again I think I would still wait for something newer but another one. Personally think the 6 should be a 1 in the price to be more realistic

Not sure if it is still available but not a bad looking 242ss. |
I have looked at all three of those ads. I think overall the last one looks like the nicest boat. I don't really want a 502, but I guess it would work. I do think that I would rather have a 502 than twin 350's. The yellow is better than the teal and pink in my opinion, but it's still not my favorite. It also has the single Quicksilver controls. I really want the split controls. I guess I'm being picky, but I really know what I want and don't want to be disappointed with a purchase.
The boat in Lake George is the color I want, but it's a standard 454 instead of the mag. And being an 87 I'm sure it's an Alpha I and not a Bravo. Like you said, if it was a 1 instead of a 6 on the price it would be more enticing. |
Just my opinion but I would definately take the 502 over the 454 mag but that is up to you. I think you have the right idea and should be picky. Wait it out for a well priced 90/91 with the colors you want and then you will be happy. If you can live with a 454 mag vs the 502 makes your picking that much more plentiful. I hear ya on the colors. Formula had some really great combos but had some REALLY bad ones that just seem to hang on over the years. I wish you had been looking a couple years ago you could have had this bird. Not an SS but doubt you would find one cleaner.
