Fuel Tank Fabricators in MA/RI ???
the fuel tank in my 1991 Formula 242SS has got some pits from water exposure. Being a 20+ year old tank, it may be best to get a new one.
I have found a couple of local fabricators: RK Welding - Pocasset, MA Luther Welding - Bristol, RI Anybody have any experience with either of these companies? Any others that you would recommend? |
luther welding in bristol awsome!!!!

I went with RK Welding in Pocasset, MA . . . real near where I keep the boat, so convenience factor was there.
The guy does tanks for most of the boat yards in the area. I'm having him make the tank 4" shorter than the original, so I have a little more space to work with on the installation. The original tank butted up against the bulkhead, which caused its demise. There was another tank from a late-1970's/early 80's vintage Formula there. Lots of corrosion . . . the thing looked like a powdered pastry there was so much. I should have the tank in a couple of weeks, so I'll post an update then. |
I got my new tank today . . . made by R.K. Welding/Fabrication in Pocasset, MA.
http://home.comcast.net/~tpenfield/W...s/IMG_0359.jpg I had them make it a bit smaller than the original, so it is 85 gallons versus 94 gallons. It also has 4 internal baffles instead of 3 with the original tank. :D I think "R.K." did a nice job. I am currently fixing some bulkhead and stringer rot, so the tank will be waiting a couple of weeks before installation. |
looks like a nice job est. on price.
Thanks mark |

Thanks mark The lowest price quote I got was $800 from a place in NJ, but it would have needed about $150 in shipping, etc., and RK took my old tank, saving $$$ on disposal, etc. |
