yea, 272's are tight. I got mine out by taking the exhaust risers and the fuel filter bracket off. K plane pumps were in the way as well, Lift slowly and rotate 90 degrees. 2 person job- lifting while keeping the iron off the glass. When one is out, the other is a breeze. Good luck!

To get the first engine out of a 302 with the exhaust manifold on I have to tilt one side of the engine up. A come-along or wratchet straps can hold the engine at an angle so you can go slow and careful.

I have had my engines out of my 292 sr1 twice each and then this past winter after I found crack in the oil pan.
1. Flip the hatch over and support with large plastic cooler or such sitting on the swimplatform. 2 . Remove risers and manifolds to access the front motor mounts. I disconnect all and tie wrap out of the way(alt, power steering pump, fuel filter.drop raw water pump and lay in bilge.remove wires from starter and all grounds, look carefull all around. I us a fork lift with a block and tackle. Gives you room to swing ever so little. With pullies off front of engine should fit. Good time to clean the bilge and replace that old bilge pump and other items you can now get to. Good luck and enjoy the time. |
I had same boat, you will have to at least pull one exhaust manifold on the first engine you pull. I can't remember which one but I do know I always pulled the starboard engine first for some reason. And yes absolutely put the best starters on while you have them out. Starboard can be changed in the boat but I had a bad port starter and had to pull both to change it. Loved my 272 but I needed a midget handy to work on it for me.
