Should let Brett from BBlades chine in here. He Knows this boat even if the build is producing strange results. my Heads dont even match motors but rpms do at WOT...:thankyouthankyou:

Are those rpms with your mirage's after being labbed ? What speeds were you at with both props?

Actually they are Quicksilvers pre mirage non labbed at 62 mph. I just got them a little cupped this weekend, need to test. I plan to lab the Bravo's, ride is much better now with them but at 58 WOT 4500rpm. Will get new exhaust and maybe change the peanut head since they are mismatched...A fall project. Maybe match the drives too...someway mentioned that boat likes nosescones too...follow this thread, might help you..http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/p...sr1-props.html

I forgot an important factor, or one that I forgot to consider. My outdrives have nose cones installed. I don't know which ones they have a groove down the side which I haven't seen on any others . But I was wondering if these are possible hurting my mph's . I have read alot of threads that guys lost mph's on slower boats like mine. What are your thoughts?

Call Brett BBlades!

Ok well I yet to hear back from BBlades, but what does everyone think about removing the nose cones? I have noticed that the boat feels the best completely trimmed up positive. And never starts to cavitate. I read on my searching that with the bravo's being so deep the nose cones can pull down when being trimmed positive. I also read that you shouldn't use them if you don't have hydraulic steering, which I don't and don't intend to get.

Im not sure what completely trimmed up means. If i trim up too much I lose speed and it sure cavitates. There is a sweet spot, depending on water/wind/tide/weight/etc conditions. Or, for some reason with my both set of blades I can still maintain a nice almost full speed and have a nice rooster tail. If its too rough I have to trim it down a bit, or when crossing over a wake. I Try to turn into other wakes at 90 degrees btw. Too much trim my steering starts to get loose too...almost flipped it first day out with this boat doing 60 missed a big swell and the bow was too high and caught some updraft. Was almost vertical but landed ok. Gotta install those lanlards.

On another note, while installing my cheap (4.95 for 5!) but way cool LED lights throughout cabin and cockpit (http://www.ebay.com/itm/BLUE-5-LED-P...10%26rk%3D3%26 I noticed half foot water under stairs. first time I put my hands underneath. boat is at dock. had a lot of rain in past week. cabin remaions dry. Is there a passage to stern under motors for pump? I cant find one. Seems this would sink boat if one left door/hatchs open...

if you do a search on here the water is most likely coming from the windshiled and it settles under the step. my 311 does not have a drain connecting to the bilge. Fortunatley i have never had water under there.

Jg1000 09-13-2012 12:54 PM

So what does everyone think about the nose cones? I can trim all the way up or positive without cavitation. also the boat runs the fastest trimmed all the way up. I would think that it should start cavitating trimmed that high but it doesn't, which makes me think that the nose cones are digging down into the water. I hate to remove them if they aren't hurting me but from all the treads I've read they maybe my culprit. I talked to bblades and they said take 'em off but they also said to call Bob's Machine shop and that guy said he doubts they are hurting my performance. So.......

Can you take a video of this action and post on u tube. Very strange to me.
first with trim all the way down, then bring it up. no rooster tail??? mine 20 feet in air, 40 feet back with 3 and four blades.

I have no rooster tail at all. No matter where the trim

Something isn't right then. So from negative trim(drives ALL the way down), when planing off and staying there to WOT it is the SAME speed if you trim up to positive (level) plus four inchs (lets say for chits and giggles)? Completly trimmed up to me means the drives are fully up which would damage the gimbals/ujoints. I gain 10 mphs with just trimming that 4 inches.
too much trim the boat will not go. So, either I don't understand something your doing...take a vid - I gotta see this...i have had nosecones before on other boats, made the rooster tail bigger btw. Though had cleavers ;)

different animal but i like roost

Jg1000 09-14-2012 08:20 PM

So I found out a few things today.... my mismatched mirage + and quicksilver 25p 3blade props seem to work the best. they yielded me 64mph at 4500rpms.

I also tried 23p mirage 3blade and they were 65mph at 4900 but cruise speed as 5mph lower.

I also talked with my mechanic and told him about the no roost and he told me to hit the trailer trim and see if that helps. I don't know how other formula's are but mine has trim limiters to keep dummies from driving around in cavitation so they will on trim up so far and then there are secondary trim buttons labled from trailer. My mechanic informed me that the bravo 1's are a stern lifting prop so they will need more trim than the 3blade. which the three blade ran best right at the trim limiters. and it was shooting about a 3-4 foot roost. :)

So tomorrow I am gonna pick the bravo's back up and try them again with some more trim.

I am very happy that the props that came with the boat yeilded good results however they are still alittle low on rpms for these motors but i feel that since they are 'free' ish... that the others will probably not be worth 1000 dollars for any benefits .

How does everyone compare the bravo 1 4blade to the hydromotive quad 4??? I can't find anyone around here that has hydro's to let me try and everyone on OSO that has my boat seems to run them with best results.

My mechanic seems to think that the 4 blades will by far out perform the 3blades in the midrange. which is really what I am looking for. I am not a wealthy man and fuel economy is definiteley key . with the 3blade 25p I am 36mph at 2700 rpms

Dtile 09-15-2012 01:24 AM

Show video of u using the trim. I never used trailer trim when trimmimg.
Maybe your up solinoids are not working?
U could get the 3 blades doubled cupped.
When you trim up does your boat porpoise?

Jg1000 09-15-2012 09:39 AM

the trim definetley works , hitting the trailer trim didn't help the 3 blades but the 4 blade bravo lifts the stern more so thats why we were thinking I should try it , yes it porpoises if I trim up if I'm not going fast enough . at WOT I can trim all the way up to the limiters with no porpoise, atleast when its not rough out.

I guess my boat backwards then ;)
I need bow lift, not stern lift. My four blade bravo gives me this -and my new cupped three blade Mirages...yes, most boats it creates stern lift but not mine, or my baja.

JG,
88' Formula 292 stock 454 non mag at 63 mph cupped quicksilver 23p prop at 4800rpm starting out with trim in (down) then trim out (up) 4 inches with plenty trim out (up) to cavitate before using trailer trim switch- didnt use in this vid. Best speeds before rooster tail at 63, rooster tail speeds at 58.

ya, looks like a few spots the gasket for the winshilrd shrunk and water goes in..wonder any better fix than silicone?

yeah once I put the 3 blades on it I can pull a rooster tail just like that, the 4 blade props needed the trailer button to do so. My trim gauges are electric so it is hard to compare vs. everyone elses.

Dtile 09-18-2012 04:15 PM

electric? my 4 blades do a bigger tail w/o trailer...maybe your x dimension different.

Isn't running with the trim that high hard on the u-joints? I thought you were not supposed to run the engines with the drives past the trim stops (into trailer trim range)?

Honest question, I am a newb at this, thanks!

Brian

dsmawd350 09-18-2012 10:09 PM

yes ive also heard from long time boaters that a rooster tail on a stock bravo one basically mean your just out killing your u joints etc.

when i first got my boat i had a 3 blade cleaver on it and would run around trimmed up a good amount but not into the trailer range would throw a cool roost but they said it was hard on the drives

I was no where near the trailer button...I never had an issue with shootin a tail on a bravo with trim at 7 or 8...I never had a boat where i had to use the trailer trim either to get in the power band. My boat power band is while its in the beginning of tail.

yup pull the windshiled off and reseal the bolts in the winshiled the put a new gasket on it. I can't remember but a couple guys have done it not a fun job.
