Kaama question, is boatman302 or others around
Ok Kaamaheads,
Got a question. I have always used Mercury High perf gearlube in my drives even though Kaama called for "high quality 90 weight gearlube" I,m sure Merc high perf is OK but what are you other guys running. I noticed after rebuilding the drives last year, that i,m not turning quite the same RPM as before. (I,m sure the bearing clearances are tighter now but I lost 150 RPM). Also, what is everyone running for oil in the Twindiscs. SAE 30W is called for but would 40W be more protective. What are you guys running? Lastly, Boatman302, I remember you mentioning in a Kaama related thread a while back that you were able to repair a rear shaft that had bearing damage. I'm looking into it as I have two rear shafts damaged by the rearmost needle bearing. Some say hard chrome and regrind. Others say Cold Weld and regrind. Anybody have ideas? I contacted Andy Casale but all I got was an abrupt "Do not make those shafts anymore" I'd like to get my spare drives put back together and these shafts are holding me up.:waffen093: |

Machined shaft undersize, chromed oversize then machined down to press on shaft size. Worked great! I ran redline light gear lube in mine and picked up couple hundred rpm.
