271 sr1 question
 

Does anyone know the correct centerline length on a '95 Formula 271 SR1 (length without the platform)?
They appear to be shorter than the older 272 SR1. Thanks for the help.

Its right around 25'. The 271 is closer to a 242 than a 272, just like the new 292 fastTec is really just an improved 272.

The entire length of the 271 is 27ft 1 in with the platform so subtrack aprox 2 ft for the platform.

I disagree. I've been in a 272SR1 and a 292 fastech. I'm convinced the 272SR1 is BIGGER than the 292 fastech.

I find this interesting as I think the 292 fastech is heavier, a little longer OA and is 6" wider. I wonder if the cockpit layout seems smaller? Never been near a 292 fastech, so no real information. Just stating I am surprised by this and find it interesting. (Not that I am in the market for a 292 anyways!)

My 272 is just under 29' with the swim platform.

The 272 SR-1 and 292 Fastec are almost the same length, the SR-1 may appear bigger but the tape measure doesn't lie. 29'2" is 29'2". I guess we could say that the 272 makes better use of the space.

Tape measure probably makes them the same, the 272 seems taller and therefore "feels" like a bigger boat to me.

Didn't think about the depth. Teh 272LS seems like a shallow boat to me with the low cockpit depth. I see pictures of other people in their boats and they seem like they sit further down into them.

I also tend to forget that I am 6'5" tall and 265 lbs as I am the runt in my family :cartman: So once again, my perspective is a "bit" lopsided! I had always considered the 292 Fastech as a possible next boat if I decide I do not want something larger. Of course with my other problem of how many kids I have around, I should probably just start looking for a Baja outlaw or Scarab III.

I have a brother-in-law(technically not officially) that is 6'6 280lbs and a prison guard. Lets just say he does not fit comfortably on my 292. The bolsters are really to small for him and not a whole lot of leg room when on the bench seat. I really have to balance the weight when he's onboard, but I usually also have his wife and two kids with us as well as my GF.

Now for me, 5'11 180, the 292 is perfect. I'll agree that the 272 sr-1 is a more solid boat then the 292 fastech. It's definately heavier. Having been on both many of times, I think that gives the impression that the 272 is bigger because it feels more solid even though technically they are the same size.

Thanks for the responses and opinions on the different sizes and comparisons. I now have my answer. 271 SR1 is smaller than what I'm looking for. 272 SR1 is the one for me.

I'm going to post this elsewhere also but while my fingers are typing....does anyone know of a (key words) really nice 87-90 272 SR1 for sale that the owner doesn't believe is worth it's weight in gold? I'm in the market and keep finding well worn or million dollar boats..... or well worn that someone believes is a million dollar boat.... I'm becoming somewhat disheartened.

IMO $15,000-17000 would be a good price on a solid 272. Little red gave his away, I wouldn't plan on finding one for that price.
