Diego's 272 gets a Winter Day excercise
 

We picked a great day to take Diego's 272 out for a spin around Miami Beach this afternoon.

This was a shake down after installing Stainless Marine Custom Exhaust on both 454's. I had the pleasure of taking the helm for a while on this old girl who has had a face lift and is as sexy as ever. With the twin BBC's she gets on a plane in a blink and is screaming past 60 in a matter of seconds. We saw a best today of 64 GPS (into a 15 MPH head wind) at about 4400~4500 RPM running 25" Mirage Props. I think there is more with Labbed Props and carburetor jetting...I think it might be a bit lean with the better exhaust. I wouldn't be surprised to get 70 out of this rig....these engines are strong.

We stopped for lunch in South Beach on this typical 80* South Florida Winter day. We left and went to South Beach Marina to top off with fuel near Monty's and then out Government cut for a little ocean running in 3~5' seas about 3 miles out.

Diego took the helm, trimmed the 272 out using the Bravo I's and K Planes to balance the ride and was able to maintain a steady 35 MPH with yours truly enjoying the shotgun position.

The 272 handles big water as well as many larger boats...it just carves the ocean up. We saw several other boats out getting beat up while we enjoyed the ride. We ran North about 10~12 miles and headed back inside.

We headed in Haulover Inlet and back to the Marina to wash her up and put her away.

The kid at South Beach Marina pumping gas looked in the bilge and said "Damn...are those car motors?" We had fun at his expense...poor kid...

All and all we had a great day. I should have my old 'bird in the water in a few weeks and we plan to go show off a little.

I think if they were we woul be seeing quite a bit more snap...even though this thing is "Snappy" and a real pleasure to run around in. It's as solid in the water at 60 as it is at 45...but it's a Formula.

They sure look the part ...do they not??
