New 357 owner
Hello All -
Picked up my childhood dream boat over the winter, a 1986 357 SR1, so thought I'd post up and say hello. It has been a few years since I've even had a boat, but I decided to jump in for awhile. I remember skimming through the formula brochures in 86/87 when I was about 13-14 trying to convince the old man we needed the 357, but he wound up getting a 85 28-PC to keep Mom happy, although in hindsight the only thing that would have made her happy was no boat! I found one over the winter and the owner repowered it about 5 years ago with 502 EFIs as well as had most of it reupholstered and the graphics updated a bit and put it on a new aluminum tri-axle Hi-Tech trailer with the EoH disc brakes. Got good results back on the marine survey and decided to pull the trigger. It didn't make it out over last summer, so I've been going through it this spring and taking care of the few minor issues it had and it just about ready to go. Changed the oil out of the TRSs, pumped out old fuel, bow cleat needed to be have the anchor rod adjusted so it could be sealed to the deck, had a bad fuel gauge and sender, had one engine in need of the electric fuel pump in the VST tank, so have that to finish along with the port starter can be temperamental so I'll be swapping that out. Also have new canvas being made, a cockpit cover and a bimini top (yeah, kills the lines, but I need shade if I drop anchor somewhere!). Looking forward to getting it out on the water in the next few weeks. Grabbed a slip down at Philly Marine Center for the 4th Holiday and going to check out some rack storage in the upper Chesapeake this weekend to see about putting it down there for a month or two, although my prior boating has been on the Delaware or lakes with the occasional boat rental down the Jersey shore. I know its not a modern go fast by any means and quite heavy, but it didn't break the bank and is somewhat of a surreal feeling to finally get something you had only thought about as a kid. Maybe I'll run into one of you out there... |
welcome here and congrats on your new toy! I've had one and really enjoyed the ride! have any pictures?

Thanks! I have a few the old owner took when it was up for sale, but haven't taken any since I've had it although it looks the same. I plan on getting some in the water over the summer, but here are the old ones.

Welcome to OSO and thanks for the post. That new look has quite a modern appeal and the boat should ride very nice.
We are going to be riding in a 357 this year too. This one is an 89 and is still sporting the Palm Beach graphics but I am thinking of a make over on it. Happy Boating. :D:D |
