Formula on mythbusters
Has anyone seen the mythbusters where they revisist the boat that hits the spindle and gets split down the middle of the bow? The test boat is an 87-91 (looks like a 272 but maybe a 311?) vintage Formula stripped of power and engines replaced with drums of water. They drive a large pile and then tow the Formula to 25mph and hit it dead on and it snaps the piling right off!! It was cool to see a Formula but a little sad to see it used for that, it held its own though.

Sorry didn't see your post

no problem, I agree by the way, why can't they seem to use 80's bayliners for this kind of stuff. but it was nice to see the Formula fight back.
that's the second time they destroyed an iconic boat (IMO) I'm still peeved about them destroying a mid 70's Carlson to prove the Live and Let Die boat jump was real. who doubted the jumps authenticity anyways? it's not like they had CGI in the 70's! what's next destroy an Apache or original Cigarette with C4 to see how fast it sinks? |
A 272 SR1 Formula with the pre 87 LS flat glass wind shield. One of those mid 80's transitional boats. It was definitely stripped down bare. Impressive when you consider that the hull was junk so I imagine wet and rotted wood. Still strong enough to split a piling!

I wonder how a Fastech hull would hold up??? SR-1 FTW!!!!!!! they should have just used an 80's Scarab or Fountain to achieve their goals!!!!!!!

The picture of the boat that caused the "myth" was a Fountain I believe, in the Gulf off of TX. Maybe they should have used a different brand than Formula.
