Any idea what it stands for....

nobody has any idea what SR1 stand for.

It means your pretty damn cool if you got one!

I've seen it debated on here many times. Do a search, can't remember if anyone really knew what the SR stood for or not.

had 1for 12 years didnt care what it stood for.A friend of mine has a 311 now and asked me what it stood for and I couldn't answer him. Sport Race.???

I did some searching and didn't come across anything.

1982 was the first year for the SR1, 303 model. At that some time they had an SC models, Sport Cruiser or Sport Cabin take your pick, so I'm assuming the SR is short for Sport Race or Sport Racer. Sport seems to be a common name that they continue to use since inception. Sportsman, Sun Sport, Sport Cruiser, even Fastech Sports.

I was speaking with Scott Smith in the Formula tech dept. a few months ago and I ran this very question by him. He has been with Formula since 1987 or 88, if I recall correctly. His response was that it means "absolutely nothing". He said it was a number given to the boat for no other reason than it just simply sounded good after the model number (271, 272, 311 357 etc.). I thought, man... that's kind of a bummer, you'd think SR1 would have some sort of significant meaning other than just sounding good. But hey, I guess it does sound pretty cool!

I thought I heard a long time ago it was a derivation from the SR-71 Blackbird. That SR stood for strategic reconnaissance. Since the Thunderbird logo is also a "black bird" it sounds good to me ...

I have always had the understanding that it was a category designation "sport runabout" like the coast guard uses for classification. That sounded purposeful to me. If that is the case then "Fastech" has a more product specific meaning as created by Formula instead of a generic classification.

Always forget what FAS[SUP]3[/SUP]Tech stands for, until I go back and read the brochure. lol
