WOW!! Impressive Mike

Keith Atlanta 09-19-2013 10:50 AM

Cool. Was the throttle at 80% or were you over propped and couldnt attain max RPM?

80% Throttle ......believe me ...there's more to be had .....we just have not been out much this year and when we were conditions were not right ....meaning the weather and/or my "rev limiter" (wife) ...... max rpm was about 5300 ...I plan to turn 56-5800 max ...32 Bravos with 1.34 Imco drives .....we'll get there .....m

Full Force 09-19-2013 03:47 PM

you got boxes? whats the base power?

314joey 09-19-2013 03:51 PM

WOW, the word is impressive, I'll be watching to see your final numbers.

no boxes/ deep drives....... 540's W/M3's Bob Madara designed the entire top end .......

Rattlesnake Jake 09-20-2013 04:27 AM

Outstanding Mike, but why the 1.34 drives?

It allows me to run a slightly smaller prop ..... 32's right now and will probably end up with 34's ..... m

Wonder how long stock 502's would last with prochargers

jeff32 11-09-2013 09:54 PM

impressive how accurate is your regular speedo compared to your GPS !!! How many HP does that engine recipe gives you?

professor_speed 11-09-2013 10:10 PM

congrats

pretty much dead on the same ..... both are GPS ...... they both dynode @ over 840 each ..... Bob Madara's numbers called for ez 900hp but the dyno we used has a history of being 8-10% short on the numbers ... meaning his motors are usually stronger than other motors that showed bigger numbers somewhere else .... Bobs usually pretty conservative on his numbers and pretty much always right ..Cant ask for a more knowledgeable or Friendly guy ......m

well, They were on these 502's from 2000-2011.... First cpl of years only issues were head Gaskets and drives .... He O'ringed the heads and went to Imco Drives .... after that ran 8-9 years with no issues ....m

Full Force 11-10-2013 10:34 AM

if you are making that much HP, I am gonna say with proper setup that would be easily 108 mph boat.....

Key is "Proper Setup" ..... deep drives, stock 32's and over 10K lbs .... I'm happy .... Using the Bam Calculator 1800hp with High Drives, boxes, notched transom, good bottom .... calculates 104mph .... Also shows 20% Slip .... (101) .... But at this point Slip is my Friend (drives) ......m

my buddy went 107, hes not making 900 hp, but I would thing around 800....you can keep the drives together if you maintainence them, he don't have many issues...2 fails in 6 years, one was a helmet breaking not the drive, that's not too bad at all for a Bravo style drive..

offthefront 11-11-2013 08:06 PM

I'm curious what some 34's will do ......plus some 1's or 2's .....waiting on a deal on those .....I see them a lot when guys try them and loose speed .....m

I know of 2 Fastechs that responded very favorably to 2" shorties Mike. My 336 didn't.

I had my eye on your lowers but wasn't in a position to get them .... Do you know what they went on and how it worked out? I think my drives are deeper (98) than newer hulls .....m

Full Force 11-13-2013 09:56 AM

Formula raised the x in newer years from what I know.... Not sure how much though

They're going on a 303 with built engines next spring. Guy lives in IL.

Lowers will help as well as boxes, but looks like you might have a pretty good set up there now. How's it feel at 100 Mike? Shorties will loosen it up a bit, but you have to "drive" it thru the chine. Conditions HAVE to be right too. No sense becoming a statistic. Be safe!

The IMCO lowers will be faster than the Merc Sportmasters, but will leave less steering on the table, shorter skeg. I've been running the -2 Sportmasters since 2008 and have been playing with spacers. Looks like the best is -2 with the boxes. You may need a spacer without the boxes.

I also hear that the 34's aren't what they are cracked up to be. Not sure if it's true or not, but I heard that Merc changed the casting for that prop only. Not sure it's 100% true, but a comment someone made to me a few years ago.

The lake we live on (Dr. Lake, where Whiteys Fish Camp is) is about 5 miles long and maybe 1.25 miles wide .... The wind had come up and we made about 4-5 passes and with other boats pulling tubes ect ....you get the picture .... anyway it wasnt what I would call relaxing .... I know we have done 80-85 blast with smooth conditions and it was smooth as silk .... I just dont know if its better on the drives to pull the 5800+ with the 32's or 5400+ with the 34's ... But your probably right ... I'm trying to force it faster and with your advice I would be removing Drag to "let" the hull go faster ....to a point .......m

Full Force 11-15-2013 02:51 PM

higer rpm will be better on drives, takes torque away... that's what Hydromotive swears by... as long as you are still in power range...

FIXX 11-15-2013 05:47 PM
