trs to bravo drives on formula f302?
i plan on keeping my f302 for awhile been throwing around the idea of tearing her down this winter and filling my transom professionally and cutting new holes for bravo xr drives. i know i would have to figure out the x dimension and move the motor mounts rearward i currently run the borg warner trans with trs drives. i know its alot of work i would be able to get parts avaiable easier vs the hard to find trs parts, would be less weight, and the weight of the engines would be back more,
so what do you think of the idea? i really dont want to go to konrads. like to eliminate two other moving parts in my boat like the transmissions just another part to fail how hard would it be to get the right x dimension? |
Should be simple to do....very popular change out. I have seen it done on a few Scarabs here in SE Florida with good results. As always....it can get pricey!!

I've heard the only thing you gain is a lighter wallet. Have you had trouble with your TRS drives? I know the trans are actually easy to rebuild or easy to find someone to rebuild them and there seems to be plenty of guys on this site selling the actual drives. What kind of power you running? Some say there good up to 600hp and certainly a few guys pushing them past that with out any issues. I personally love the way they shift around the docks.

Remember also that hull was designed for TRS and trans COG, so when you move things around you can mess up handling also, TRS parts are not that hard to come by at all, I run 600HP through mine and also 72C trans, my boat is 11,700 lbs.... drives last fine so far....
to me that conversion is not worth it, besides changing how the boat handles... leave it alone and save the cash... the trans shifting is priceless also... love the smooth shift.. |
I wouldn't do it but if you do look into leaving the motors where they are and running shafts back to the drives. All B1 boats are a little ass end heavy, plus
you don't have to buy new tail pipes, cables, fuel lines, and every thing else you need to move the motors. |
Dont waste your $$$ the boat most likely wont gain much if anything.... too have no problem finding trs parts....seems like only Merc dealers have trouble finding the parts.....hmmmmm....wonder why.....hmmmmm
