Tow my Formula
Looking at a jeep liberty as a tow vehicle for my 255 freedom cruiser. I know it will pull it but will it stop it?? Anyone ever used a jeep as a tow vehicle?

You and I have very close to the same weight....especially if you have twins. In my opinion...the Liberty...although it's a nice vehicle for what it is...does not have the a$$ to handle a 255 Freedom Cruiser.
I wouldn't use it as a tow for that boat. You are better off buying an older 3/4 ton pick up or Suburban and keep it around just for towing that boat. |

Not enough wheelbase and overall tow vehicle weight to control that kind of load. IMHO, do not attempt with less than 1/2 ton vehicle; bigger than that would be better.

I have jeep grand cherokee few years ago.
I pull boat/trailer 7500lb with GC without any problems. Trailer has brakes all axels. Now when boat/trailer combo weight over 12000lb i have 40000lbs truck for road trips ;) |
The saying is it is easy to tow a boat, but stoping it is another problem. I pulled many Formulas from 292 SR1 to 419 Fastec all with a surge brake system and drum brakes. When I went to the 38 Fountain, I had a custom built trailer with triple axle disc brakes and electric over hydraulic brakes. The EOH brake system is a must in my opinion for any boat towing situation. I can actually stop my truck and boat combo in a shorter distance than just my truck, that's stopping power. Look into it and the EOH brake system will save your life someday. Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback. That pretty much matches my thoughts but the deal is SO GOOD! I could use the jeep to tow the boat or tow the jeep 4 down behind my motor home on road trips. But no not worth the risk.I will keep using the F250 to tow the boat and pass up on the SWEET JEEP!

No Way don't do it !!!!

If you were to have an accident you would be in a big mess. I would think your tow cap. of the Jeep isn't enough for the weight of the boat and trailer.
Also your Ins company is going to tell you that you don't have Ins when towing for the same reason. |
