Delete power steering

Guys I want to delete my power steering off my 242ss alpha. I am just a little confused on what I have to do.

I would start by lifting weights and getting in shape.........

Why?????

Just one more component that can go bad in the future. I am trying to simplify the motor as much as possible. I also removed the water pump and installed a crossover.

Why is such a bad thing to remove?

Brutal torque steer, it will rip the wheel out of your hands. -Been there many yrs ago with a little 18 Donzi... If you really want to eliminate the power steering components (not sure why as the Merc stuff is bulletproof) you could install an internal ram Hynautic hydraulic steering system. Extremely simple as the helm is the pump. -Just helm, hoses and cylinder.

If I removed all the stuff on my boat that can break id be left with a pile of Fiberglas that wouldn't eve float :lolhit:

I would leave it as is, it's a very reliable system, and that boat would be miserable without. The torque steer as stated above will be terrible. Can't even go down the lake without a death grip on the wheel.

Ok thanks for the info guys.

I agree, keep it. I've had the unfortunate luxary of having to steer the boat with only 1 of 2 engines working. It was a struggle and docking was no piece of pie either.

Popeye always relied on spinach. I have found the same to do the trick even steering my 311 that has 1100 hp
