Just bought a 2004 292 looking for a few things...

Just picked up a 292 and I'm in need of a moring cover. I would prefer it with long sides but not a must. Anyone selling one or recommend a good supplier?

Also, I'm looking to upgrade to add on hydrolic steering. Any recommendations? I had it on my 26zx Donzi and even with a short water test I can tell I'm going to need it on this.

Now I just get to stare at it under shrink wrap until April!!!!

Also looking for a blue steering wheel to replace the white one.

When I had mine I added the IMCO steering, full with their helm. And yes you do need it. I
have pictures if you want to look at them.

COOPS 12-02-2013 07:14 AM

I was in your old boat a few weeks ago at Pier57. I saw the install 1st hand.

As I was looking for a 292 I was very suprised to see that they didnt come standard with hydrolic steering.

Anyone have any good contacts at Formula? I have a rear seat seam that is pulling on it. I was looking for a replacement skin if they offer them.

Thanks

Hi Coopsmirage-- Congratulations on the new boat- can't wait to see the pictures.

Regarding a cover. I know this on the other side of the lake/world but I highly recommend

Mark Biddleman
Bidelman Road
Three Rivers, MI
(269) 244-5307

He has a very small shop and does covers for everyone that is within 100 miles of the place. We have personally had new covers made for 2boats (Cobalt and Browning),purchased an awning/shade and had two vents cut into a new boat lift cover. I know a little about McHenry Illinois and the prices that these guys charge up there - are thru the roof! If you call Mark - just tell him George with the Cobalt -- he will know me!

All the best

Congrats on the purchase. If you go full hydro steering use an Imco helm. The helm beauty ring covers the existing helm hole, I had to make a plate to cover the old bolt holes plus I had to fill in the old helm holes with wood plugs to center the new helm up.

Add on kit will not solve the steering issue with the 292.

Ok. How do you get up to the anchor locker to actually get the forward anchor set?

The mirage and the Donzi both had one large hatch to exit onto the deck. Not a chance in hell I'm going to squeeze out one of the tiny deck hatches.

It would look like the boat is giving birth to a full grown man if I tried!

Thanks

step bye pass seat, step over windshield onto ledge and then move forward you will get used to it :evilb:

masi242 12-02-2013 06:28 PM

Yea it`s tricky you will get used to it my wife did:lolhit: just make sure your feet are dry, it`s amazing how fast you can go down. Congrats on the boat

I just bought a full boat cover for my Donzi 35ZR at boatcoversdirect.com and it fit well. I am just using the cover for storage inside my boathouse so I did not need to go crazy with it but price was right and pleased with fit. It does come with tie downs for trailer but I don't plan on using it for that.

ChrisL 12-02-2013 06:40 PM

Nice looking boat by the way.

Do not put the anchor in the anchor locker unless you are good at fiberglass repair. I used to just take the rope up there and throw anchor off the side so not to carry anchor across bow. I can't find that email I used to use, just call them and ask fo Sean in customer support. He will get you anything you need.

You should have bought my old boat, already had the steering, congrats on purchase.

You should call Chris at McLeod. He has been very helpful with some stuff for me. They did the interiors for your boat I believe. They have all the patterns. I am contemplating having them do mine.

Congratulations on a very nice 292. I love the paint scheme.

I ordered my full cover from boatcoversdirect.com. Its not a custom cover by any means but it fits pretty well. I use it in the driveway over the cockpit cover to protect from sun and dirt. The mistake I made was ordering in red. The cover faded after 2 years but otherwise is holding up well for a $300 cover. If I had it to do over I'd order in gray.

Thanks for all the info....

I'm looking for a long sided, almost to the trailer, cover as it does sit outside and I would like to keep it looking this good forever. I havent been able to find any companies that make a cover with extended sides. I will try
3pointstar's recommendation on the MI independent shop.

Thanks again

Its going to be a long winter!!!!

Never going to find a cover w/ sides that go below the rubrail via mail order. U will definaltely have to go to an apolstery shop and have one made $$$. If it's gonna sit outside, you may consider having one made w/ snap on or zip on curtains that hang down to or near the trailer when its not in the water. That way if you ever leave it in the water overnight you can have a cover that doesn't hang into the water. You also would probably want one that has the poles in the correct spot and tight fitting so the cover won't hold water or lay on the sundeck and leak through.

COOPS 12-03-2013 12:13 PM

It came with a nice waterproof cockpit cover. I have always double covered my boats. I spend too much time cleaning them to let it get dirty just sitting.

looseconnection 12-03-2013 01:23 PM

Careful with two covers..you can hinder ventilation and cause a mildew mess if your not careful. Use a fan if possible to sir the air constantly. Before I was in covered storage I would double cover my boat, condensation would form on the underside of the cockpit cover and track back and keep the sun pad foam soaked.

Thanks again to all for the info. I added a few more pics of the interior.

It's going to be a long winter!

Does the formula factory offer tours?

I actually picked this boat up about 30 miles from the factory.

Angola Canvas Co 12-07-2013 10:00 AM

Hi Coopsmirage. I could make you a cover. My family has owned Angola Canvas Company in Angola, IN for over 35 years. I'm a member and advertiser on this site. We don't have a pattern on your model but we can use your old cover to make a new one or I come up to pattern it if you can get it inside. We can also make it finish at any length down from the rub rail or gunnel. I get up to Chicago area to pattern boats for marinas and love to hit Greek Town ! We use patterns and produce them for a lot less than guys that come to your boat. They are still a custom cover and we carry Sunbrella, Aqualon, Solution dyed Polyester and ABC vinyl. Give us a call for an estimate and mention your Offshore Only Member 10% Discount!

Thanks !
