My new to me 271

So I took a little trip over to Lake Lanier yesterday to pick up this. I just purchased a 99 Formula Fastech 271. Boat is in AWESOME shape and only has 177 hours on it. Has a 502 MPI and has been taken good care of. Ready to get this thing in the water and enjoy some summer weather. I'll let the pics do the talking.

step 1 ditch the silent thunder, seal all bolt holes well.
step 2 make noise

racinfast002 06-05-2014 10:36 AM

Actually I think its plenty loud with the silent thunder, I would consider ditching it if I had captains choice.

08 fastech 292 06-05-2014 11:26 AM

I had a 1993 271 with a 502 and that thing turned heads at the dock when I fired it up. That is a great engine for the boat. I had over 750 hours on mine when we moved up and it still ran strong.

Enjoy!

Hell spend some $$$$$ like I did on my 2000/271. Whipple, EMI thunders, 1.5:1 XR, 26P Bravo1, Hydraulic steering. Went from 64-65mph to 78- 80mph GPS.

I'm so stoked out of my mind right now its not even funny. My only complaints about the boat are it doesn't have tab indicators and its lack of storage space. I'm just not sure what everyone does with their fenders/ropes/anchors ect. But I'm sure everything will find a home in due time. Right now I'm just ready to get it on the water!!!!!!!

You can add the Bennet LED tab indicators, not a huge job just confirm you have Bennet tabs. Boat and engine look very clean. Is the trailer original to the boat, it seems to stop a little short at the transom? Have fun with the boat, you'll eventually dial it in to your liking as time goes on. Congrats!

Yeah I figured adding the indicator gauge wouldn't be terrible. The boat has all the original owners manual including the trailer so I believe it is. The part with the winch and roller is adjustable and could be moved forward, but I'd hate to change anything as it tows really well.

Congratulations. I just went from a 22 scarab too a 98 271 FASTech. Currently swapping my 600hp 496 stroker, XR/-1, and dual ram steering in. I will be selling the EMI Thunder exhaust and Corsa capitals call if you're interested.

As much as I'd like to have it, my bank account is pretty tapped out right. The purchase of the boat was the cheap part, its all the other stuff thats starting to add up. For now I'm just going to enjoy what I got and if I decide to do something with the exhaust I can always have a go back later on it.

So quick question, last night I was messing around in the cabin and took the bed cushions off. I noticed under the front one there is round access hatch. I tried to open it to see what was under it, but all it did was spin, never opened. What is under there?

Pave 06-06-2014 09:03 AM

CGT nice boat as I have nor driven about 10 hours with mine,:-) On my boat under the bed cushion is toilet but it has never been used.

The furthest back cushion (closest to the mirror) is the one that I'm talking about. There is an access hatch there, and I want to know whats under it. Under the middle tank is the fresh water tank, and under the last tank is the toliet.

Pave 06-06-2014 09:40 AM

Hmm..I think I haven't even watched there, :-)

Btw..I was also wondering where to put everything but after few hours everything found their places, :-)

I wills second the Bennett tab control. Installed one on my 272LS and it is very nice to know where the tabs are.

So today was the first day on the water with it. My fresh water system is leaking in the bilge. Anyone know where to get replacement fittings?

VoodooRob 06-08-2014 07:38 AM

West Marine

Congrats on new boat,I own 2005 271 with 525efi and love it! Perfect size for day trips the build and ride quality is awesome.Just had a great day on Lake Erie can't wait to do it again.

racinfast002 06-08-2014 08:56 PM

So I found the same exact fittings at Home Depot earlier for the fresh water system. Replaced them, it held pressure for about 5 minutes before it blew and started leaking again. Looks like it's back to the drawing board.

racinfast002 06-09-2014 08:22 AM

Dang good weekend

bj1464 06-10-2014 07:44 AM

That would be about 61knots..wow.

RT930turbo 06-11-2014 10:55 PM

Congrats on the boat! Nice rig :drink:

Splitdecision271 06-13-2014 07:30 AM

Congrats.... although it's nice to know where your tabs and drives are, every day could be different. Boating is all a feel, you adjust on the fly per the conditions at that moment. I find it that actually drive more with my tabs then I do with my trim or throttle. Indicators are a want not a need!

racinfast002 06-13-2014 07:45 AM

Not disagreeing that you can't drive the boat efficiently without them, its a want and I want them. I fixed my fresh water system yesterday. Replaced the Seatech fittings with a simple hose barb and hose clamps. FYI, my boat was plumbed with some weird size PEX tubing. Its not the same 1/2" stuff you can buy at the hardware store/RV shop. However a 3/8" hose barb will fit it perfectly.

Now my next question, I have the typical water under the step issue and have read a lot about it, but even begin to know where to start looking for the leak. I cleaned up all the water in it yesterday, so I will be curious if it shows back up after this weekend.

What is this "under the step" issue?

97FASTech 06-13-2014 10:46 AM

I had the water under the step issue when I first purchased mine. It turned out that I had the nose to low when stored, I now jack the front end way up, no problems in 3 years. Start with this simple step first, there may be something else going on, but this is a good starting point. Oh, store with drain plug out.

racinfast002 06-13-2014 11:02 AM

Boat is currently stored all the way up on level ground. I also have started using my full cover instead of just the cockpit cover. Will report findings of water after tomorrow when I get to use it.

97FASTech 06-13-2014 11:05 AM

I believe one of the problems was leaking around the windshield if the weather stripping was bad.
