I want to say it was 4800-4900. It was a couple of years ago. My engine had IMCO risers which may have helped a little.

No decent pics here with meat home. I'll see about posting some from my office tomorrow. There isn't much to look at... stock Formula with stock 454 Mag power. :-)

My 89 touched 62.9 GPS last year with a 23p mirage plus. It has a mk iv 502 but no clue on hp. I'd like to try a 25p mirage plus, 22p bravo, and 24p bravo before I would say it's "dialed in".

Is 63-65 mph realistic with 1987 242ss stock 454/330 alpha. Engine mods are edelbrock performer 2.0 dual plane intake w/stock q-junk and stainless marine exhaust?

Probably not . . . are you using the oval intake heads?

GLENAMY 242SS 07-16-2014 09:54 AM

Engine was said to be rebuilt by po 200 hrs ago assuming all stock +.030 bore. Oval port peanut heads. (intake/exhaust manifolds replaced by me)
what do you all think is realistic speed expectation? Guesses anybody?

TomZ 07-16-2014 10:18 AM

50-53 would be my guess.

I have the brochure from Formula at home in my owner's book, and the advertised speeds are listed there. The 454 Magnum is listed at 56-58 (my boat ran 58 on radar with a 23P Mirage according to the invoice in the book). Power output differences between the 330 and 375 Mag are pretty substantial.

My 1986 242LS has 454/400hp, BravoOne. Mirage 21 plus. Last summer I saw 60 GPS mph in the Barnegat Bay in pretty good conditions. No bottom paint. It's For sale btw., with custom painted Pheonix trailer. If anyone knows someone looking. Great condition

Great boat.
Keep us posted

That seems really fast for a stock 272 LS with 260's. The 272 is a great all around boat. Last year I could maintain a nice plane and turn at 16 mph with drives tucked and bennett tabs down. could go slower but would fall off plane if you turned too fast.

Never tried the single engine before, interesting.

I had a 242 with right around 530 hp and mine would hit 69 on a perfect day. Never broke the 70 mark but would run 68 all the time. Call Bob Madara as lil red suggested. He designed my engine and knows what it takes to make a 242 move.
