Seriously looking at 1989 Formula 272 SR1
Hi everyone first time poster here I am seriously looking at the following boat just looking for a little advice on pricing and things to look for. 1989 Formula 272 SR1 had fresh 454 engines put in it three years ago and has about 100 hours on the new set up.
This past winter the drives were taken off and completely gone over and all necessary parts replaced. At the same time as the engine replacement the swim platform was taken off. Hull has 1000 hours on it but is in immaculate condition, 3 owners that I know in my local area over the past 10 years all of which i would have no problem buying a boat from. It is a 65mph boat. Any and all questions / advice greatly appreciated http://www.kijiji.ca/v-powerboat-mot...ationFlag=true |
Check gimbal rings/steering arms for slop. If everything is as advertised I think they are close on the asking price, especially if they are willing to take an offer in the higher teens. The 272 with big blocks has a very tight engine compartment. Very tight.

you will love it and if there are papers backing rebuilds the price is fair esp up there where things tend to cost a bit more, lots o room great ride, no speed demon but very respectable, and you wont ever have to worry about a messy river day

Seriously ????
Check the main bulkhead for moisture if you can. I always liked the swim platform (Silent Thunder Exhaust), but some just prefer a regular platform or no platform at all. Post some pics if/when you get it. |
Ended up purchasing the boat after a loooonnggg negotiating process, lets just say I won :) i will post pics once i figure out how!

272 is a great boat. I had one. 60mph with smallblocks. Ride nice. Congrats.

The process was just long because I was willing to buy it for the right price but i was also willing to lose it. Called his bluff a few times but maintaned contact every couple of days for a few months up until the recent purchase when he called me and said "come ge the f@#$ing boat....he had third child on the way, second wife and just built a home...
Regarding pics, still trying to search the forums on how to post them, i will as soon as i can |
