I've met a few Fern-Lickers in my day; they usually hang out with the Tree Huggers. I've never met a Stem-Licker though. :D

Brian nice behavior for a "moderator" slinging personal insults and perpetuating nonsense. I guess you to are a keyboard cowboy living your life on the internet? Stimleck happens to be my name

I was clear that my comments were not appropriate so I deleted them.
I love that the 3 of you are having so much fun with this and perpetuating it like little girls.
Do you meet in teenage girl chat rooms and plan your internet attacks on people you don't agree with on message boards?
Do you measure your internet status on the number of posts you have made?
You and loose connection I can understand because you are clearly wanna be's but Brian I'm surprised that a moderator and normally very helpful knowledgeable boat man would bother with t his nonsense.
I love how the internet makes you all a couple of inches taller.
Your high school bullying days are way behind you let it go, no need to get back at the guys that humiliated you by hiding behind a keyboard and attacking the first person that disagrees with you with less than 800 posts.

My boat takes damn near a half mile to get up when it's rough out

stimleck 08-19-2014 09:01 AM

4mulafastech thanks for the detailed response. Clearly I didn't take the time to read the explanations regarding elevation and prop size before I commented. Add those to factors to any boat and you will have planing problems, makes total sense. I guess I got caught up in the many comments that ignored these two factors and simply tried to justify poor planing performance.
It reminded me of Lamborghini and Ferrari owners from the 80's and 90's that justified offset pedals, no outward vision, breakdowns and 5000 mile tune ups because it was "exotic" or had great performance. Porsche and the Acura NSX showed them that its not required. Not sure why they bothered justifying poor planing performance as acceptable when as you mention when set up properly it planes fine. I guess this also flies in the face of the many posters here that claim anything under 35 feet is not a true offshore boat. I ride in a new Formula 29 br every weekend and it planes in seconds with 10 people and handles most of lake Ontario easily with a top speed of 58 mph so I was very surprised to hear that planing issues were being defended. I have ridden on many Formulas (not a 29 fastech) and always loved their smooth solid ride and frankly never experienced any abnormal planing challenges so this surprised me.You don't need to be an Offshore Guru" to understand this common sense rationale.
By the way I also owned a 38 scarab with Chief engines that struggled to plan but once set up by Tommy Hofstetter planed very easily. We won a Lake Ontario poker run with him driving and used the boat like an all rounder for many years

Anyways thanks for taking the time to explain

Stimleck,
Let me try and clarify a few things here as it is quite apparent you have never ridden in a 292 and have formed an extremely negative opinion based on something you read. The op has a new to him 292 overpropped for the elevation with possibly other things going on with the setup, driving style or engine.

A correctly propped 292 planes just fine! It is a 8'3" beam, 24 degree dead rise hull with two steps. Just like any similar offshore style hull it planes with fairly high bow rise and takes a few seconds. No big deal. Once on plane you enjoy all the rough water handling (24 degree) and efficiency (twin steps) this type of hull provides.

My 292 runs 70-72 mph in rough water that no bass boat could even think of running past 35 mph. See, that's the difference. Plus we can overnight in it. It really is a great boat and a blast in rough water. I would love to give you a ride in some sloppy water getting good air. I'm SURE you would have a smile on your face and realize your comments are incorrect. Peace!

Where does "more than 60" come from? Why are you hung up on 60. A well set up 292 fastech does 70 with 350 300 hp mpi's with a moderate load. and can do so in a pretty good chop.

Your just irritated you are wrong and keep feeding us chit to toss back at cha. If internet jabs get you this contorted you need to chill. All fun and games.

Steve (Timleck),
Thanks for your email. I'll just reply here.

OSO is equal parts entertainment and informative/educational IMHO. "We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time." This is just in the course of normal ops around here, and not meant to be personal. Take a look at the Tony Stewart thread for some more good reading.

The only issue herein, is this thread is just not related to the OP/Tedorama's question(s). 3 and a 1/2 years from now, he'll be selling that boat, or someone else will be researching 292s, and they will have to answer to your original and followed up qualms about the performance of the boat. That's not right, not fair, and not just. The posts that followed were just a few members' ideas to relax the thread a bit; mine included.
