What to do with Silent Thunder?

Removed silent thunder and all indications are it's an improvement, looks better sounds better, less weight. Now I'm trying to decide what to do with it, sell it, throw it away, keep it. I really don't have room for it and it's too heavy to easily move around. Anyone removed theirs and decided to put it back on or got rid of it and wish they hadn't? One of my thought's it what about when it's time to sell the boat? I can't imagine it being a deal breaker.

Is this on a 303? I think it should stay with the boat but if you can't store it I don't think it's a deal breaker. Probably not an easy sell either.

Yes it's from a 303. If I had more room or it wasn't so heavy I would keep it around and give it to the next owner. Seems like most who have removed it are glad they did.

Bar?

I've got a whole platform off a 311, gonna make a bar off my garage with it.

I kept my ST box for 2 years after I took it off. Got tired of moving it out of the way to get to things down in my barn/shop. The last time I moved it was 2 years ago when I threw it in the dump trailer for trash.

I knew it was going to be hard to sell it as there isn't a high demand for them, and majority take them off and aren't looking to put one on. I knew I wasn't going to put it back on, and was only keeping it on the rare chance I sold her and if the new owner wanted it. I like the idea of the ST platform as bar counter, at least that could be put to good use. Not sure what peope would do with the ST box.

Mine is currently propped up behind my shop.

If nothing else, salvage the exhaust tips...Formula will never re-order them, and I occasionally get a request for them. If anyone wants to move their old tips, I could take names and contact information and keep them on a list. The black ABS fittings are the most common, but for you old guys with the Kiekhaffer Hi Performance stainless fittings, those are worth some money if you can find a buyer in need. If I bought them today, I'm guessing they would retail for around $400-$500 each.

If you want to sell yours, email me at [email protected] to get on a list. Cheers!

BD, are you saying the tips are worth 500$, meaning a twin engine boat would be 2k just for the tips? The reason I am asking is it seems like there are a lot of old silent thunder platforms around that don't sell. I have the larger stainless tips in the '89 272, but the smaller ones in the '87 311. I was thinking about trying to get some larger ones and put them in the 311, did all 311s have the smaller ones or just the '87s? Thanks

My wife took the ones off our 311 and got good $$ for them .....made her all happy ..... :)

Mr. Maine, IF I could still get them, yes, they would cost $2,000 at my retail markup. If, however, anyone with a Merc account could buy them at my cost, you could get them cheaper. It's academic since they are NLA, though, I suppose. I honestly don't know if the '87 tips were smaller because our computer bill of materials records do not go back before the 1988 model year, but I would say it's possible. It would be a fairly simple job to enlarge the holes to fit the bigger tips if so.

BD, thanks for the response. Yes I think I could put the bigger tips from the 272 into the 311 quite easily, but it would be harder to put the smaller 311 tips in the larger cutouts of the 272 platform.

The reason is, I want to pipe from the transom to the tip to make "thru-thunder" having a true thru-hull exhaust. It would be much easier to fab up an adapter to go from 4 inch stainless pipe to the larger stainless tips than it would be to go to the smaller ones.
