the orange thick wire goes to the ignition,,it then goes to the older alternator to turn it on..fiddle with the plug,,it will plug together,,just make sure the big pins are aligned..

All the pins do line up, it's just the boat harness has the 3 big pins and the engine has 2 big pin holes. That one pin is what's messing me up

Email me a picture. The only difference I've ever seen is in the small pins. And I've swapped motors around in close to 100 boats.

then maybe 1 pin broke off from a prev harness when pulled apart ,and its still in the engine side ...I will tell you they will plug into each other .I had an 88 formula 24 ss I did a while back ,,I put a 496 ho in ..never changed harness .plugged right in no adapters nothing
