DVD TV replacement
Need to replace the TV/DVD in the Fastech. Where have you guys gone to get a new TV/DVD unit for yours?
Thanks, Chris |
I did this a month or 2 ago... Ended up doing this with a mount from WalMart...
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/insignia...&skuId=2127006 I thought mine was a 32 but It could be a 28", I'm not sure... I have a 330 and this fit nicely http://i1094.photobucket.com/albums/...o/IMG_2206.jpg |
I went to Sams club and got a Vizio to stick in the 357. There was a nice heavy duty aluminum TV mounting bracket that would swivel on ebay. It looked to me like it could take a pounding with out any problems so that is the route we went.

Post up how this goes, I'm interested in the r&r in the 353. From what it looks like the mirror has to come out of the head to get to the brackets. Hopefully I'm wrong, I need to do this job shortly too.

If your boats are anything like mine good luck getting the mirror out. It's screwed in and glued down with mastic, I wasn't able to get it to budge even with suction cups. What I ended up doing was taking a skill saw to the original mount to open it up and get access to the bolts. Once it was open I was able to get the bolts and the rest of the mount off. After that it was easy, just drill a few holes in the mirror with a diamond core bit and mount the bracket. I did run a few zip screws into the mount and the bracket to keep the TV from bouncing off the mount.

No need for any prying it off....
I already did the hard work there. The TV works fine, the DVD is intermittent. Under the TV are two Philips screws, remove them and slide the TV up and off. No need to mess with the mount on the mirror, it's solid. The new TV will have the same mounting holes as the bracket on the existing TV and slide right back into place. DONE! Don't make me fly out there just to put a new TV in...... Dave |

PM me your number...may be able to help you on the plates.
As for the TV, I acutally installed this unit myself. First of all, yes, break the mirror off the wall in the head. It ain't coming off easy. Save the pieces and have your CNC buddy cut you a new one, then drill the mounting howls and re mount it to the wall. AFTER you install the TV mount to the cabin mirror. Measure, measure, measure. Blue painters tape is your friend. Using a 1/4" drill, drill pilot holes from the cabin side thru the mirror and the double wall into the head. Next, use the pilot hole to make a workable hole (hole saw) in the head for the mounting to the mirror in the cabin. If I remember correctly, the mirror is mounted to plywood. Nylon nuts and washers from the head side, and the mount is done. Replace the head mirror. Fish an extension cord and a piece of cable coax across the headliner to the closet. Wire the extension cord to the outlet breaker and send the cable to the back of the boat to the trunk. Spend the money on a water proof cable junction and use good cable and connectors. Plug the TV in up in the port side speaker access. Lots of room there. That just about covers it. Questions? Dave |
