You could try a 23 Mirage plus, should give more top speed

Splitdecision271 08-06-2015 07:51 AM

For more top end you would want to go up in pitch.

Yeah I was thinking of tryin both Mirage 23 + and 25 +

I wonder if a mirage 25 + will spin easer then Bravo1 24 as I have now ?

Thinking about 3 blades contra 4 blades ;-)

Hi Splitdesicion

As far as I know the rpm of the 496 HO is from 4800 - 5200 and I am now around 4800 it will be har do go up in pich. If I can spin the 3 blade Mirage 25 pich closer to 5000 then I will gain some. Or if I could spinn a Mirage 23
Closer to rev limit I could maybe gain a litle :-)

A 25 mirage plus will be harder to turn and slower. More comparable to a 26 bravo. Try it if you have one but I'm betting on the 23.

Gear ratio of the drive?

That's what I thought too but Merc's website says your 496's range is 4600-5000. It was always my understanding that the lower you went in pitch the less top end you got. Although I recently dropped from 28s to 26s. I didn't lose much but boat definitely feels better out of the hole with full fuel and gear and RPM increased just a bit. Still haven't hit the limiter yet so thinking my set up is just right.

I would think it would have a 1.5 on her.

Hi Guys
Thank you for the replies :-)

RJ : I think all Bravo1 XR are 1.50 ratio

Split: I also saw that on the manual, but everybody I speak with says 4800 - 5100 :-)

I would like to spin around 5000 - 5100 and now with the Bravo1 24 I spin 47 - 4800 I know for a fact that Bravo1 props are
aprox actually 1 pich less then they claim. 24 is the a 23 etc.

So I was thinking that I could reach 5000 - 5100 with a Mirage 23+ which then shoul give me a higer top end + ? ;-)

Anyway the most important thing is that everything works :-) A modern Mercruiser as the 496 HO (200) is new for me, and I like that
