Well, haven't been able to touch the boat for nearly 3 weeks. This work stuff kinda sucks. lol. The damn thing sits in the shop staring at me all day and all I wanna do is work on it but ya gotta pay the bills first I guess.
Hopefully I'll have some time this weekend and next week to get back on it. I have been working on rounding up parts for it though, which makes it necessary to work to make more money which makes it impossible to actually work on the boat?? Seriously though, I worked out a deal with the guy I bought it from to buy back the Latham Marine hydraulic steering that was on it. So it'll have an awesome steering system and I won't have to fill in the holes in the transom. Win, win. Working on deals for parts from some other members here. Exhaust and a bolster seat plus a couple other odds and ends. I'll post more pics soon. Thanks again guys. |
Didn't get to work on the actual Formula today but did get to do some work that moves us forward on getting it done and got to do it with my youngest son so it was a pretty good day.
Pulling his first outdrive: http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m...002_182655.jpg http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m...002_190447.jpg Then we got started on pulling the Merc 7.4: http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m...002_193811.jpg We'll get it pulled out tomorrow and set on the stand. I bought this boat a few weeks ago to use the engine in the Formula. It only has 133 hours on it and is very clean. Its seized right now, it sat for years on the lift, but I'm hopeful. Has freshwater cooling also. The outdrive came out with no difficulty whatsoever. No stubborn hardware at all. The outdrive and complete gimble, transom and steering assembly is for sale if anyone knows someone that needs it. Its an 88 so no fluid reservoir but its in great shape and has a SS Mirage prop on it. http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m...002_191027.jpg |
Got to put a little time into the Formula today. Can't believe I havent made more progress on this thing but I guess some progress is better than none.
Pulled the Silent Thunder platform off today. Gotta clean up the transom, get the bottom paint off and get it looking new again so it can be reassembled. http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m...026_175606.jpg http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m...026_175827.jpg |
Recommendations on what chemical to use to strip the bottom paint on the transom?
Local shop wants $200 to soda blast the transom. Just a small area, seems like I could do it myself with the right chemical. Just don't want to hurt the gel coat. |

Picking up a big brother for my 242ss. Bought this 357 from Gordon, Smokin' Gun. Wont pick it up for a few weeks but can't wait to get to work on it. Parting out my Scarab project to put the 496 Strokers, Huber transmissions and TRS outdrives on it.
