Are these 377 scorpions or standard 6.2s? They are in 2001 312. Think the manifolds were replaced or stock? What speed will this boat run & what pitch props were standard issue? What do you guys think of the boat. Owner does not know how many hours are on the boat. The $ is right. Too bad I live in Wi. or I'ld be all over it if it was closer. No trailer,looks very clean.

Did you read the description???? They are 6.2s. Photos show 53 hours on the meters, but don't know when that picture was taken. Not stock manifolds, were replaced can't really tell which brand. Stock could be 28p or possibly 26p Bravos. It's a 70-72 MPH boat. I've seen a couple of these low priced, poor health, Formula's lately. Just be caution if serious about it.

The guy said the hour meter wasn t correct & had no idea how many hours were on the boat. The pics are current. I m guessing over 200 hours because its a salt water boat with replaced manifolds?? Yes I realize it says 6.2s but I haven t seen any 6.2s with blue covers like this boat & still m curios if these are race motors?
A 292 with 350 mags does 70-71 tops & weighs 1200 pounds less so why with 40 more hsp would this boat do the same? I was thinking 65?

Those aren't the scorpion shrouds. Looks like bought custom ones or made them himself. I only had 120 hours on my 350s and replaced them cause the boat was 10 years old. Did they guy say they were race motors? I have a 292 with 350s and its a 67-68 mph boat. I've seen 70 but once and only in perfect conditions on a river with no wind and flat water. The 312 is a completely different ride than the 292. That extra weight def makes a difference, just a smoother more solid ride. . 312 is also only a single step hull compared to the twin step in the 292. Its a 70-72 mph boat.

I didn t realize it was a single step. No I didn t ask specifically on the motors. He was pretty unknowledgeable when it came to specific questions. I am kicking tires. Still have not decided what we are going with yet. I have a long way to go to find my perfect boat.This forum is a wealth of knowledge. Its great tool!

This is the place to ask questions. I've had my 292 for 7 years now and I still find out new things from this site that I wasn't aware of. If you look the Formula forum has the most activity and most posts out of all the other manufacturers forums. No matter which model year you buy guaranteed someone on here can tell you anything you need to know about it. I think that just speaks volumes. Your ahead of the game just considering a Formula.

Yeah,there is no doubt that these are high quality boats. I am pretty much set on a bird. It boils down to a go fast model or a SS model that is more weekend friendly or maybe a 27pc? I want to make a go fast boat work for my wife & I. We have to get in the actual boats & look & see to figure this out. If I can afford the 353 I'll do it for the enclosed head & air. Other wise the v berth porta might have to work. Not sure @ this point. Still a long way to go before a decision..

I don't think those are 6.2's Look close at the valve covers....center bolt style like the vortec 5.7 motors.....the 6.2 motors are LS series engines and they have different valve covers on them....i thought the scorpion engines were the 383 stroker motors based on the vortec roller 5.7 engines....and if memory serves me right i thought GM introduced the 6.2 in 2007???? dont know if anyone was using anything like that before in a boat....

Wally, this isn't the LS 6.2, its a 350 with a 3.75 stroke crank to give 377 cubes (6.2 liter). They were 320 horse in the standard offering.

I had a 2002 gmc 3/4 ton p up with a 6.2. If I remember correctly that motor had aluminum pistons that rattled until warmed up.
Don t know if the blocks,or internals were the same as what Merc used? Probably the same block crank,rods & pistons? I wasn t impressed with that motor. GM replaced pistons & rings on mine, & one piston bore must have been over sized a little because the rattle never went completely away.

So is that a shorter piston with a longer stroke? or what??

There is another used 2000 312 on boat trader with stock 454s. So thats 330 @ the crank right? He states hes running 28 pitch @ 65 mph. I thought that was weak for stock big blocks. I saw in BOAT TESTS a 312 w 454 mags @ 385 hsp. The test said 72 mph. 1.4 mpg was the best @ 3600 rpmsh.
Soo, 6.2s @ 320 hsp should be the same as the stock 454s I m thinking,400 pounds less weight. But,won t have the torque. I ll bet this 2001 w 6.2s is running 26 pitch. That be my best guess..

Any idea what the MX stands for? I did a search & found that MX motors were 340 hsp..

6.2 in in a 2002? Should have been a 6.0 but either way those are ls style engines totally different than the old style 305/350/6.2. The 6.2 was by merc never ever went in a car or truck.

The wrist pin is raised 1/8 inch to make up for the upward half of the increased stroke. Itso just a 383 sbc except stock 4 inch bore. They were 320 horse.

The 454mag has 75 more horse than the 7.4mpi and will be quite a bit faster. The 6.2 and the 7.4mpi should run similar although the 6.2 may have a smaller prop and Rev higher.

To put it into perspective, my 312 with 1250 hp only runs upper 80s, and might touch 90 on a good day. Twin 454's with whipples.
