Looking at 2003-2007 353 Fastechs
Hi Guys!
I'm looking into 353 Fastechs and 330 Sun Sports. Mostly the 353s though. I had a few questions that I know you guys will answer off the top of your heads! Construction- IIRC these are wood-free boats? Solid? I had some issues with my 97 Baja so I'm real gun shy now. Issues I should look for? What should I be looking for to check these boats out? Common issues? Etc. Thanks fellow OSO brothers and sisters! -mike |
Formula have a great reputation and I don't want to bring them down in any way but you should read these threads, if you haven't already.
http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/f...r-chillin.html http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/f...ks-bottom.html A couple of guys have a build problem with their boats. It may be two very isolated examples and it may be different year models to whatever you are considering but do some homework. These issues are very fixable and that is the main reason these guys are sharing their story. Lots of qualified info, don't let it stop you buying a Formula, but you should know what to look for. Good luck! RR |
Yup check those areas. If you have cracking in the liner, stringers, check the bottom VERY closely. Look at my pictures and the ones in Chris's thread to see the locations we are talking about. There are lots of clues if you are having the same problem that Chris and I are dealing with. If you see the issue it is not a sign that you should not buy the boat but make sure you account for the cost of the repair in any offer you make! I would say a little over 10 grand is a good number for the repair. The problem is that you will be with out your "New" boat for a while as the repairs are being done. So keep that all in mind. If you do not feel comfortable with assessing this then show anyone that you hire to do a survey the threads so that they can pay close attention to it. Good luck with your search.
