No power to coil?
Ok so over the winter I updated the gauges/switches and cleaned up the helm a bit
Also fixed a water intake issue in drives (fab new stelling water tubes) So to my new issue rolled boat out for spring start up and port motor fired right up Starboard motor cranks but won't fire so testing, checking and tracing stuff down I'm lost now Starboard motor has no power to + side of coil checked key switch, lanyard kill switch all good even ran a jumper from key to coil to just see still nothing Motors are carb hp500 stock Ive read a few places they say bad tach can do this but there new (not saying can't get bad new parts) not sure how tach plays a roll in no power to coil Ive not done anything in the motors to changes but gauges Any ideas? |
Is there power getting to the key switch at all? Maybe the key switch is bad. How about the ignition fuse/breaker? Since you were in there working gauges/switches, maybe something go crossed or not hooked up. The positive wire going to the ignition fuse/breaker should then go to the key switch and have 12 volts on it.

Gray wire on tach is the signal wire, which is directly connected to the - side of the coil. The - side of the coil is what creates the tach signal.
Therefore, make sure the Gray wire is connected to the Signal (S) post of the tach. Nothing else should be attached to this post on the tach. |
Fixed. Thank for the replies.
Ended up being the new tack is bad unplug gray signal wire fires right up. New tachs on order. It's ok I wanted hour meters in them anyways. Just didn't think about that when I ordered them the first time. Thanks again Ryan |
