Refreshing my 2004 Formula 400 ss
 

Sold my 2009 33 active thunder and decided to go a little different route this time. Boat has 500 efi power and only has 170 hours on boat and engines,runs and sounds awesome! gotta stay as close to my powerboat roots as possible. going through boat and changing and adding some things. i will post pics and updates as i go. installing all JL audio speakers and amps. 6---6.5, 4---8.8, 2---10 subs. just finished it up and its crazy loud but clear. installing underwater led sea blaze 3 lights, new full canvas here this week. my favorite addition which i fell in love with at the miami boat show was redoing the whole dash and getting rid of the wood. gonna do carbon fiber panels, and platinum Livorsi Gauges. adding new Livorsi controls and a Isotta steering wheel. its a ton of work but i believe the end result will look killer! its at catawba mini storage/boat storage(brians) right now, but my slip is at Gem Beach Marina. probably be ready in 2 weeks or so.

Looking good. Just bought one too in the fall last year. Going for bottom paint next week

I have to stay near my performance roots too so the 400SS is the only other option I would consider also.
Great boat.
If you want to run the generator while running on plane over 30 MPH you will need a transom pickup to feed the strainer with because the steps will air lock the factory pick up and the gen will over temp shut down. Same issue for me.

Could you take pictures of where you mounted all the speakers and subs. Bought a 04 with 525s with bravo 1s last fall. Need to upgrade the sound system. If I could figure out how to upload pictures I could show you how I painted my dash. That wood had to go.

I just sold my 38 TG and bought an 06 40SS. Excited but sad at the same time. Friends tell me I will love the boat. I hope they are right.

Have you considered getting the extended swim platform from the newer Super Sports from Formula factory, and placing some type of seats on the existing swim platform instead?

I just spent he day yesterday tied up to a 33 ss. They are really nice. Never been on one before.

RogerThat99: We're lucky enough to have both a 330SS and a 302. The 330SS is always in demand due to the spaciousness of the cockpit, and the factory Bimini top, the ease of entry, etc. Things that have nothing to do with driving it, but passengers value. The 302 is fun to drive, but can't fit as many comfy, is not as good to anchor out in, etc. While the 302 is the boat I'd choose to actually get somewhere, the 330 is what gets used the most due to all the above reasons. The cockpit is very close to the same size as the 400, btw.

I'm starting to consider selling both boats, and getting a 370 or 400 SS, something I considered a few years ago, but didn't. Now it makes even more sense, but I'd hate to lose the sport boat. As fast and smooth as the 400 is, I'm just not sure it matches the fun of driving a sport boat.

Sorry about stealing the thread, let's now go back to admiring this very nice 400's restoration.

I have a 1999 400 SS. I just installed a Garmin7616 and all new Livorsi gauges, trim and drive indicator, livorsi steering wheel and drive and throttle shifters. New sea deck flooring and all new switches from Formula. Fusion deck linked to the Garmin network. New speakers with LED and new sub (should have installed 2). Also installed a second tv on the arch in the cockpit over the sink. Pulled hdmi so it is connected to my dvd and Apple TV. Put flatscreen in cabin.

I had to cut out the old dash and have a new blank dash re-glassed. Then we cut new holes to make everything fit.

Ill try try to post a few pics so you can see the updated look.

How high was the rig? Would like some details on the trailer if able. The 400ss is our next boat and it will be trailered.

My 400SS is 13.6" to the searchlight, radar off the arch. It sits on the trailer keel to ground 18". Dont know about hardtop version. I really like the old school arch. My trailer is a manning gooseneck 3 axle.

What do you tow it with? I currently have a 2500 diesel SRW.

Just did 2 apple tv and switched my phones to Visible. Unlimited data, really. So on first try streaming all tv worked with 480p. Seems good...cheap....we will see

not enough truck. F350 DRW 2017 33,400 combined gross weight does a great job. Single rear wheel too much sidewall flex. I tow cross country.
