Drives and prop rotation..311
 

So when I bought my boat the drives were off. They were labeled port and starboard (bravo drives) so I know what side to put them back on when ready. I have a question about alignment. Should they be straight or towed in or towed out alittle?
Should I turn the props in or out? Going to be running hydromotives 4 blades..

Slightly toed in is what I always did. I was told it was less stress on the steering and made the boat track a little bit better. I always ran mine turning in. It did make it less friendly around the docks so if you are not comfortable with the boat yet maybe out is the best thing to get familiar with. Good thing with the Bravo's is you can just change them at the shifter..

agreed...run the props turning out. Yes, may lose a mile or 2 mph but much easier around the docks...as Jon said, in is a bit tougher to dock.

Did they turn out from the factory?

I had a 1990 292 SR1 and my buddy had a 1990 311 SR1, both ran best turning out. I don't think I ever ran into a SR1 turning in the seven or so years I had the 292.

We set the boat up with the drives turning out. If I recall correctly, for a time we ran the drives with a 1/2" toe-in, but for years now we have run them parallel.

This brings up a question. I an new to my 1988 F311 with upgraded motors.
Normally:
1) Are the motors counter rotating? (how is this accomplished)
2) Or, are the Bravo 1s reversed somehow?
3) Or, did they beef-up the reverse gearing and just have one of the shifters reversed so that that drive (port) is running in reverse?
I looked at the cable routing/connection at the shifters and they seem to be routed on opposing sides of the shifter handle/shaft.

Engines are standard rotation. The drive's forward/reverse direction is changed via the cable's orientation. The Bravo drive can be run in either direction. :)
