Going to look at a 402 SR1 this weekend, any known weak points ?

The boat has trs drives, but no engines. If I buy it I have 2 new GMPP 502 HO engines to marinize and install in her. Love the looks of this hull but know nothing of their long term durability. Im more of an engine and mechanical guy rather than a fiberglass person. Any common issues with this hull or places to inspect besides the usual soundings and crack inspection?
Thanks,
Rob

Hi Rob, with engines out should be easy to check stringers and transom for any softness. The decks are just screwed to the hulls on the 402's so check to see if it has pulled loose anywhere. Walk along the edge of the deck and check for any sqeeking or movement and at the seam in the engine compartment. Good luck they are great boats. Alot of work but well worth it in the end. Any questions feel free to give me a call

Check the transom and stringers and forward bulkhead very well. Also check around/under the step going down into the cabin. Those are probably the most likely rot points. Depending on the price you are paying you may want to get a pro to take a look with a survey.

Thanks guys. I love the look of this model and my only concern is dumping more money than its worth. It looks great in photos and the seller seems like a great guy. I will be leaving shortly to go for a look and will post up some photos tomorrow. Thanks for the tips on what to look for. I've got my fingers crossed !

Cant seem to post photos here. I uploaded a couple of exterior shots of the 402 to photobucket.

Not sure if that works but if it does, has anyone ever seen this boat before?

My last girlfriend told me I need to go slower, and size matters....so I bought an old 402!

I haven't picked it up yet but I'll post more photos when I get her home. Its getting a new cockpit as we speak. Going with original padding design but all white. Mild carburated 502's with Gil exhaust going in when I get it home. Still need 1 RW pump and lots of odds and ends to dress the motors. I wish it wash May and not midsummer!

Chris, you may be sorry you offered to answer questions! I will likely have many... First time I have ever seen TRS drives, let alone work on them! Hoses and cooling will be my challenge. It comes with SOME of the stuff but I have yet to take stock on what I will need to rig them completely. Ill have the boat home in a couple of days...
