Fuel Tank Removal on SR1 311

Has any one had the experience of removing a fuel tank from a formula 311? Can the fuel tank be removed through the deck cover and what else has to be removed? What kind of shape can one expect the original fuel tank to be in especially in contact with potentially wet foam in that area? Any advice and input would be appreciated.

I would recommend getting drunk for a couple of nights and staring the job down. Then dig in and start pulling bolsters and aft seat bottom and bulkhead, then the fuel tank hatch. It is a job and a half. Email me at [email protected] if I can give you tank drawings or whatever.

I have taken the tanks out of my F-242 and my F-330. Scott's advice about liquid preparation is spot on.

The toughest thing is to get the tank to 'pop' out of the foam. Even once you cut the sides, literally it can take 1,000's of pounds of force to get the tank to break loose from the foam. You want to apply that amount of force without damaging the tank or the boat. so, that can get tricky.

On my 242 the foam stayed with the tank and separated from the hull

Working on and off, it took about 2 weeks to get the tanks out on each occasion.
