Repower considerations

Has anyone tried to repower a twin engine SR1 with the new 8.2 Mag motors? Do they fit and what extra considerations/alterations should be factored in?

Second, would it make sense to look at hooking up the Smartcraft & DTS to an older boat? It might make for a cleaner & updated dash (although I am partial to the gauge look).

You would definitely have to manage HEAT especially in an older setup. Any of the catalyst engines are incredibly hot in the engine compartment. And if squeezing them in something small; it would be of even greater concern. There are go-jillons of 496HOs out there; and some have DTS or are able to be upgraded to such. And you can still run old fashioned gauges along with SmartCraft. It all depends on your coin spend. :D

If you go 496HO, just make sure you go with the latest model you can find. Some of the 2002-2004 model years have sensors that are NLA; and the engineering of the accessory/belts and cooler systems got much better over the years.

Yeah, I thought about that. I would only consider NON-catalyst motors, especially since I run it here in SWFL (mostly brackish water, but definitely some salt in the Gulf). I would guess that the replacing those cat-type manifolds would be way more pricey than non-cat types. I thought to pay a little extra for the Smartcraft/DTS setup and not have to worry about old gauges not working etc and going with digital display would be nice and clean (and informative) Plus, the DTS would be cool especially since it would eliminate the cables (except the steering). I'm assuming that the 8.2 would fit in a older 292, 303 311, 336 or even the 312 or 353 Fastech models.

Can't wait to see this project when finished...sounds exciting. Good luck. Send us all photos....
