97 330SS center stringer moisture

Hi I'm looking at a 330 SS that has high moisture readings (38-44)on the center stringer between the engines is this common for these boats and what is the likelihood of a false reading. The boat is very clean and well cared for.
thanks!

I'm always wary about moisture. I'm sure someone with better knowledge will chime in, though.

Where is this boat? We looked at one a few years ago that had similar problem and passed on it.

Thought it might have been the same boat and was going to warn you off. But I checked my records and the one we looked at was a 1996 and was on the west side of the state. Our surveyor found the bulkhead ahead of the engine conpartment was like a sponge.

Cheers

Thanks! Was the center stringer wet too?

My surveyor called me as soon as he found the spongy bulkhead and I had him stop right there and not bother going further. I think he said there were other wet structural pieces but I can't remember exactly.

I am also curious on this as I have been looking at getting back into boating and the SS was at the top of my list

I've got a message into Scott Smith at Formula too. I've been told that stringer is a box section with heavy glass layup with little wood- could be the reason for a false reading. I'm waiting to hear what he says

Here is a thread another guy had going awhile back, moisture issues are inevitable on most boats it seems.
