Default What model did the 353 replace?

Did the 353 replace the 336 or 357?
What speed did a 357 with 500's?

382 replaced the 357. The 336 was about the same length but a MUCH taller/bigger boat. I'd say the 311 was closest to the 353 but probably a little shorter (I didn't look)

311 then 336 About the same length with in 6" or so. As stated above the 336 is taller 6"-8" and a bit wider, 3" or so. Then 353 which is a step hull with the glass grid stringer system in the bilge.

357 then 382. The 357 with swim platform was with in 6" or so in length of each other. I think that some early model 382 might have been straight bottom with steps added a year or two into the model run.

The 357 would have been built with 420/TRS or the top dog would have been 575/#3 Speedmaster or Kamma drives. The 575 was NA stroker motor. Hudson marine Group in Ft Walton had a 2 year old left over in early 90's with 575 and Kammas. The price was right but my wife did not like the cabin. In the cabin from the bow back was the same as our 311. The extra cabin room was taken up with cabinets.

Yep formula is bad about making the interiors basically the same in all the cabins

So you had the SR1 late 80s line up 272,292,311,357. In 93 Formula integrated the swim platform on all models and replaced the 272 with the 271SR1, the 292 with the 303SR1, the 311 with the 336SR1, and the 357 with the 419SR1. In 95, they added the 382SR1 to the line up. In 97, they introduced the Fastech hull on all models. They also in 97 replaced the 336SR1 with the 353 Fastech and the 303SR1 was replaced by the 312 Fastech. So as of 97 you had the 271, 312, 353, 382, and the 419. In 2002 Formula reintroduced the 292 and dropped the 419 from production. In 2004 they dropped the 312. In 2009 they stopped manufacturing the 271. Which is pretty remarkable if you think about it. Formula has had a 27ft boat in their lineup for close to 3 decades dating back to the early 80s. The 292, 353, and 382 are now the lone survivors.

They seemed to switch things up on us every 3-5 years for a while there. Introducing a new model every time one was dropped. Aside from new color schemes and engine packages, we haven't seen a new performance boat from Formula in16 years. Makes me wonder how much longer the remaining 3 have left.

I think you are right except on the 271. in think the 271 (integrated platform) is closer in size to the 242 (bolt on platform).

The 242 was 26 LOA where the 272 was 28'11 LOA. So the 242 was a foot shorter where the 272 was a foot longer when compared to the 271. The 242 wasn't an SR1 though. They were either an SS or LS. The 242 was actually replaced in 94 with the 252. Same time the 223 was replaced by the 232. The 206 was dropped from production and hasn't been replaced.

We first saw the integrated swim platform on an SR1 in 1991 on the 419SR1. In 92, they rolled out the 271, 303, & 336 to replace the 272, 292, and 311. The 357 was still offered in 92 with the bolt on swim platform. 93 was the first year all the SR1s has the integrated swim platform.

you could get a 242 as an SR1, with twin small blocks.
