Question on my Kenwood head unit and use with iPhone
So in my 2000 353 I have the OEM Formula installed Kenwood KMR700U with the flip down face and the connectors.
What I can't get it to do is play off my iPhone 7. I have a tune2air Bluetooth module I plug into the wide iPod connector, which lights up blue and shows up on my phone but on the head unit it displays No Device. So I go to the USB connector and try it that way, again with the same issue. Im guessing it's not compatible with newer iPhones or my head unit has an issue. How are you guys playing music off your iPhone with this unit? Thanks. |
If it's that old, it's not going to be compatible with the newer phones. You might be able to get a little USB-Bluetooth adapter that will make it work. I can't believe you have a head unit that is 17 years old and still working though!!

Mark, if in a pinch & just want it to play off your phone & not change out the head unit buy an AUX cord if it has that option on the radio. Hell that's what I still use.

The JVC that was in my 311 was from 1993,
and was still working when I swapped in a new system this past winter! Head units are cheap; you can get a decent replacement for less than $120. Kenwood's D368BT can be had on Amazon for $108 and change. Best Buy carries it too, and will price match. |
I got a little iTrip that I use with my iTouch. Tune to a low channel like 88.3 on the dial and BOOM. Not only can I listen to it, but when rafted up multiple boats can tune in to the same channel and broadcast the same music. this way you don't have 4 boats listen to 4 different channels drowning out each other. I think the best distance I got was 3-4 boats down from me still being able to pick up the signal.

That's a pretty cool idea!

I have a transmitter like split does and use it sometimes bUT the sql just isn't there. I have a 1997 Jensen in my boat because it has a really clean sound and 5v pre outs. I am using the $5 cassette to 3.5mm they sell at walmart. Clear sound and no sacrifice of the old school look.

Wow, 17 year old boat... that hurts.
Thanks for all the info. Might just do a long RCA cord to the AUX inputs. |
That would be your best bet for sound quality.

The Bluetooth connects is cool but it really affects the sound quality in everyone I have ever heard.
