Pulling a motor out of a 353 - does hatch need to be removed?

Anyone yanked a motor out of a 353 without removing the hatch from the boat? Looks like with the way it's hinged it can go beyond 90 degrees and almost lay flat backward (supported of course).

Last time I stripped all of the vinyl off and removed the glass piece by myself.

I have a sick motor, needs some attention.

It doesn't need to be removed. I just did this on a 353 and my 312. lean it back and support it.

All depends on how high your hoist is. If it will go taller than 15 feet you may be ok. I remove mine and just get it out of the way. A couple bolts and 4 people and it is off of there . Jeff wurl

You can remove the hydraulic arm, lift hatch and let lean back slightly rearward. Take a line or two thru the hydraulic mount on the hatch and tie it off to cleats or something forward on the boat. Allows the hatch to lean back out of your way, unless you need to pull the engine that way, then you might need to remove. If you have access to a forklift or any type of overhead hoist, you're good.

Lean it back, support it. If the hoist doesn't go high enough, back the boat up and close the hatch while engine is hanging.

I love the ease of pulling a motor in this boat, but hate pulling it!

Lucky you. I popped mine Saturday. Work is killing me right now with 12-14hr days. Not sure when I'll get to pull mine.
