What's the difference between 87-88 and 89-91 272 SR1

Some people have told me that 89-91 272's are worth about double 87-88 272's. Is this true and if so why? I thought they were pretty much the same between 87-91 with the exception that 89-91 only offered big blocks with bravo drives and 87-88 offered big blocks with bravos or small blocks with alphas. Am I correct? Wondering because I have found 2 that I'm interested in. One is an 87 and one is an 88. Just want to know if I should be looking only at 89-91 models. Thanks in advance

Are you sure you’re not getting the generations confused? There’s a pretty big difference in price between the flat-glass and rounded windshield boats. Double? Maybe.

Outside of that, the 87 would be a small block Alpha boat so you’d probably see a good difference in price compared to 88-up big block Bravo boats. Double the price though? Unlikely.

Can you give some examples on the price differences?

Out of curiosity I looked at Boat Trader to see what was out there, and found two boats: an ‘87 small block boat, and a ‘91 big block boat.

The ‘87 is priced pretty fairly, and the ‘91 is overpriced by a good margin.

Another thought... I don’t think there’s much value in trying to buy one of these boats from a dealer. You’ll probably find consistent fair pricing in the private sale market. Dealers are looking for high profit, where private sellers are probably looking for good homes for their boats (at least in any that I would consider).

Hope this sheds some light on the situation.

I don't see it in NADA
1987 list 9850
1988 list 10900
1989 list 12150
1990 list 12800
1991 list 13500

I do know the difference between the flat glass and curved windshield models. I have had a couple people tell me what I have stated above so wanted to find out why. Just want to have enough info before I buy one of these boats. I have found 2 that I'm interested in. One is an 87 with small blocks and alpha drives and one is an 88 with 383 mpi strokers with bravo drives. 87 is $10000 with trailer and fairly local and 88 is $16000 no trailer and about 5 or 6 hours away

I know they went to a brighter white gel coat in 88.

If you're not in a huge hurry I have a 1992 sr1 303 that is very nice and could be bought for a few thousand more than the 88. I'm going to be pulling my power out soon and replacing it with stock 502 MPI's. I have a line on a pair of low time 502's or if you'd like to buy the minus power then would be an option. My boat is VERY nice with full hydraulic steering, new rear seat and engine hatch upholstery, (2017), sitting on an Aluminum I beam trailer with (2) 7,000 # axles with newer tires. Shiny original gelcoat. Very nice stereo with new speakers throughout, (2017).

I'm not in a rush as winter is setting in so I will keep it in mind. Thanks
