312/ 353 water understep
hey all
I know this has been discussed and there a few post indicating the water is push-up from the engine compartment to under the step, not sure if this is the final outcome. Also I have not tested on mine. Some say they put a plug to stop the water. Well 1 I think this channel is to allow water from the anchor locker to drain. So if you put a plug the water has nowhere to go. So so why not put a 90 degree fitting in the engine area where the channel comes out instead of a plug. Just curious thoughts |
That may slow things down a little bit but the best solution would be some type fo 1 way valve. Kind of like land and sea makes for the backs of smaller boats. Hmmm now you got me thinking! :-)

Same thing happens on the 292. Plugged it in the cabin and never had an issue afterwards.

So I am guessing there is a channel that runs from the bow locker through the cabin (under step), back to the bilge. If you block the under the step and water gets in from the locker area it will be blocked with no where to go. But if you put a one way valve ( as suggested) in the bilge or a 90 degree angle fitting (long enough) water will not rise high enough to go back to the step area. If it does it will still allow the water to enter the channel if the bilge is flooded. True, you will have bigger problems at this point.
Now you got me thinking about the flapper idea :-) |
COOPS,
Do you recall what size plug is needed. |
