OPIE,did you do it?

That should have gotten your attention:D :D I'm talking about switching props to turn in. I didn't:( ,another lousy weekend.
Just curious:confused:

Hey, how are you guys doing that?? Swapping drives or just props and running in reverse??

mopower 10-21-2002 10:50 PM

The easiest way for test purposes is to swap props and shift backwards. No problem till it comes time to dock:eek:. Gotta be REAL alert.
The difference is in the levers up front. When you push both forward , one pulls the cable and the other pushes. So you are already running on in reverse , and the left hand prop corrects for this.
Both drives are identical.

I had no idea that's how they do it, I just figured they had a LH and RH drive. Thanks for the info...

That is ONLY on a Bravo drive. If you have a TRS or Alpha then you have to swap drives from one side to the other.

You got it !!!!!!!!!!!!! MY attention is full tilt.
Figuring on going out friday AM weather permitting. the interest one posting gets when you mention SPEED
WE ALL have that DISEASE
One word of caution that was given to me by someone "in the know" changing direction on worn drives can be hazardous to the life of the drive.
I guess the wear gets set to one side and when you swap the pressure it can cause some problems.
When you run a Bravo left the pressure is in the top cap, when run right the pressure is pushing down.
Talk to mbam at BAM marine for more "TECH" terms and facts.
Check out the postings on the XR drive seals. BAM knows their Bravo drives

OPIE272,
The Merc tech I know sez you can change directions any time. Actually it's almost like getting a new drive:D . Now you will be using the almost unused side of the teeth on all the gears. As far as the uppers go, if you have any wear now you will be using the other side,(top instead of bottom or vice versa),without the wear:cool:

hmmm

maybe we should all rotate our drives every 200 hours.
Actually sounds like a good idea.

This only works if you have counter rotating alpha's. Most alpha twins rotate the same direction.:( They did make CR alpha's, but they aren't easy to find.

Did it! Got 68.8 before on GPS After was 70.5-one time 71.0with the wind with 1/2 tank of gas and 3 adults on board.
Most noticable change was holeshot?!?
I put the tachs on 3K rpm and then start to trim the outdrives to about 4 then run the tabs up all the way.
With tops in I could not trim the tabs up fast enough and the nose was trying to bury because I had too moch tab down.
I tried to just trim the tabs first and I got behind on the drives
