Bravo Drives for SR1 311

Hi Guys,
Over the winter, I did an unplanned resto of my already "in good shape" 1990 311: Engines out, dyno, new gel in bilge, tabs, transom assembly's, and now realized that I have a warn bravo upper.
Two questions:
1) I replaced 7.4's with 502 MPI's years ago. If I were to get 2 new uppers, should I go with with bravo one X's or are standard Bravo's sufficient?
2) Has anyone ever purchased from Mike Vores at Marine Power Source in Miami? Saw his ads on here, but no website or info anywhere. Seems like a good guy, but thought I'd check to see if anyone on here has done business with these guys. I'm in Upstate NY and a bit tentative buying parts for thousands of dollars site unseen in a whole different part of the country.

never strong enough so why not XR 's! But i don't think it is mandatory unless you run the crap out of it with big air each week end...

Already writing all kinds of unexpected checks at this point. Looking to minimize damage to wallet where possible.

What did the engines make for power? Stock?

I don’t know that I’d worry about stepping up to a more expensive drive. We’ve run standard Bravo drives on my buddy’s blown Cig Bullet for years without a problem. I think I’d fix what you have especially if you’re looking to save some money.

IMO you will be fine with standard Bravos. The boat weights in at 7400 so HP to weight isn't bad. My single engine 27PC weights in at 9500 and I was running a 502 MPI for years with a B3 before repowering. Think along the 3700 pounds per motor.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Think I’m going with standard B1’s.
Original motors were 330 HP
Ones now stock were 415 HP
Dyno showed 460

If you do gears in the upper, get the thick floor's. They are the upgraded gear set for the old bravo's.

I used Mike True, in Illinois - Does great work and very reasonable.

BTW - XR's my have an issue fitting into the transom assy's of the older bravos because of the bigger U-joints.

Save yourself some $$ and if it isn't totally tore up rebuild them. There are a few guys locally that can help you out rather than shipping drives across the country.

Thanks guys. Hey 82... Was out in Victor getting boat outa storage today. I’ve shopped around a bit and know the players in Rochester. $2500 - $3000 for rebuild. Seems like brand new uppers (clean and pretty cases and all) are $3000 - $4000. Over the years, Ive evolved into “go brand new” mode. I have 4 drives at this point - two that work and two that don’t LOL. Probably gonna get two new uppers and ditch the rest except for one spare. Just want to be sure I’m dealing with a reputable supplier.

I ran my stock 89 bravos behind 600 HP blower motors in my 89 311 for 10 years with just normal gear oil changes. it is all in how you drive it.
