242 grinds when in neutral
hey guys question. My boat grinds a little when you bump the idle in neutral and free rev the engine. Is this a major issue i should look into before i out it in the water? I just tried to rev it a bit when i was warming it up on muffs and i hear it grind a bit. I stopped and was a little nervous. Is it possibly the linkage or drive engaugement adjustment? |
I'm guessing you had the drive trimmed up all the way??? That is a no no.
What you heard was probably the u-joints binding from too much angle. |
Griff is correct. Be sure you raise it to tow and the drive should be down while boat is not being used on trailer, regular storage.

It is also possible your shift linkage is a little off but I would try trimming down first as the others have suggested.

By any chance did you buy a blue 86 242 with a 330/bravo from Tony?

Are you hearing a grinding noise or could it be a gimbal bearing roaring? |
