Opie you still out there

sorry for the slow reply. Been busy with crazy family stuff and sorta dropped off the map for a while.
I know you under stand that.
Was going to stop by on 22 July and it was late enough Sunday, figured you were heading out or gone by then.
For some reason I don’t get email notices on shout outs or PM’s

To maybe help with some basic info...
this info is ok for raw water cooled engines. If going closer cooling then all bets are off.
I have Canfield heads. They are not available anymore, so I’ve been told.
So a good replacement are the 119cc 315 AFR heads.
Hard anodized to handle the salty, brackish water. Yeah you can get by with non anodized heads. But IMHO worth the insurance of full marine heads.
Go with a good Forged crank. No cast crap. Even if the MFG says they are OK. That is what cost me an engine a few years back. Cheap cast crank installed by a “hot shot builder” :-( because MFG states it’s good for up to 650HP.

I’m sure there are a few “experts” or engine builders that may disagree with my info. There is more than one way to skin a cat. But from what I can gather on what you want, is a solid basic motor that is reliable.

MOPOWER has almost same motors as me.
Actually I almost copied most of his build because of the success he had with his motors.

have been looking at these 540 Marine
with the callies crank and rods and dart heads upgrade.found ton of good reviews on auto sites nothing on marine.emailed him and got reply right back. girlfriend did a legal check no issues only a couple small claims that he was trying to collect.
my other though is buy a short block and build it out. I do want to go closed cooling. have tons of room in front of the engines and will never put a generator back in.
. don't think you have met jeff from my dock he has the 47 excallibur. we went together and are leasing a shop in Sherman to build a couple cars, so I have space to pull and build the motors now. I blew a engine coupler so boat is out of the water till spring. thought it would be a good as any time to upgrade.$26,000 is my max budget for the motors.
Your thoughts.
