Stereo upgrade questions (87 272 SR1)
Howdy!
Looking at upgrading the tunes. I see 4 speakers in the cockpit, and i found 2 in the cabin at the head of the bed, behind the headboard pad. Are there more I havent found? Does anyone know the stock factory sizes? The receiver itself seems to be a very odd size, does anyone know what the measurements are to change it out? I measured the face and found it to be 8.5" X 3.5" Any help is appreciated! John |
There where options on stereos. My was ordered with a blaupunct. And and amp. Mine had 2 speakers in the bench seat and 2 in the sin bin. I replaced all and added 2 more at drive and pasenger feet

The factory set up would be a pair at the front of the cockpit, and a pair at the bow in the cabin. Anything else would have been added afterward. I added 6.5’s and 6x9’s underneath the bench, and added a 10-inch sub with a hidden box just in front of the mate’s bolster. I’m running all of this off an Alpine PDX-5M (cabin speakers are off the headunit). I replaced the mid-90’s headunit with a Kenwood marine unit with Bluetooth and a remote at the helm. All drivers are Polk Audio. It sounds awesome for what it is! I cna can post some pics of what I did when I have some time, or you can search out my 311 posting for ideas. |

I’m not claiming to be an expert (and one offs do exist), but every 80’s SR1 that I’ve seen has had the speakers at the front corners of the cockpit. My 242 and 311 were built this way and the factory wiring diagram shows speaker locations at this point and the bow. Maybe yours was optioned without the stereo?? Or cabin only?? -Tom |

I decided on my 242 not to mess up anything that was factory spending I put new fosgate 2652 mids by my feet. Then put 2) 2652 and 4) 282 under the back seat. Nothing in the stabbin cabin. Running them on an amp and old school 6v pre out head unit. It jams and is more than enough to drown out the engine when running.

Nice!
Decided to replace the four 6.5's in the cockpit with Skar Audio marine speakers. POwering those with a 4way 500 watt amp. The kick panels are getting two Skar 12" subs and a 1500W amp. The Sin Bin will get 4 small speakers just powered by the receiver. Got to keep the Bikinis Bouncing! |
