As I learn my new boat...are there any downsides to trimming the motors "in" and as I come out of the hole/accelerate, using the "trailer" up button to move both motors together, to trim "out"? Watching out for too much out trim (due to trim limit switch being bypassed by the trailer button)?
|
Tom, On mine you cannot do that. The trailer switch is disabled when the keys are on. Of course mine is a TRS... your Bravo setup may be different Are you saying that your trim limit switches are preventing you from being able to get the maximum trim out of the drives/boat? On my boat all of rhe switches at the drives are disabled (from the factory). I can trim to the point of breaking something if I wanted. Your Bravo boat isn’t that way? |

I do not know if the limit switches are accurately set (I will assume previous owners calibrated them)...I just was trying to figure a simple way to move both motors up in parallel/together. Limit switches seem to work...but I was warned (previous owner) that the Latham drive cylinders can impact the swim platform if you lift (probably with trailer switch) the drives too high. |

we did sell our Fastech. Going into a performance CC. We are also looking at places in Sarasota FLA. Would love to come down and boat in the gulf. Going to be a year before we get new boat. |
The boat is down in Florida now...just waiting on my new boat lift to be finished before putting her up in the "bird house".

On my 311 all i had was the dash switches. I would run them up and had my wife measure off the ground when they were parallel to the ground and raised them to the max height before it would cause damage and marked the trim panel with a dot on each. after that i just did GPS runs to see at which point the boat lost speed and i would move them back down

Its been almost a year since my post that started this thread. The eagle has landed. I guess I should say Thunderbird has landed or Osprey (which are plentiful here) or Heron (who seems to own my dock, see attached)

Very nice! I'm currently in the market for a 311 but having a hard time finding one. Currently I have a very clean 272 (320efi/AlphaSS package) that I'm going to have a hard time parting with but looking to go a bit bigger. where did you find it?

320 AlphaSS in a 272 sound very interesting

Okay, maybe its the salt water, light chop, cooler air (in the 70s) but the F311 "flew" on the intracoastal waterway (Grande Lagoon, Pensacola) at a GPS'd 77-78 mph without any real trim work or fine tuning. :-)
This is with the "more efficient cruise but slower" 28P, 4-blade Bravo props, 3/4 fuel, two people, 5,100rpms |

Sweet!!
Slip calculated at 14%. What were you trimmed out at? My scan/awareness is down while I work on my comfort level. My wife said that I called out 77-78 MPH and I did have the drives "out"...my drive indicators say about 3-4 when the drives are (measured) flat to the boat bottom. I think I ran them out to about 7-8. I'm not 100% sure of the rpms either...BUT I will get better/more precise with practice (more stick and throttle time). |
That is fuggin moving in that big bird!

I like the simplicity of normally aspirated big blocks. |
N.a. big blocks making awesome power to get that big bird up and flying. No lie, I am thoroughly impressed.

Gotta shout out to previous owners who maintained and modified her (Kevlar382, Dba1062, JP, and RD)

what do you have for horsepower and engine specs? Does that boat have bravos? I got a 311 thinking of possible future upgrades. Thanks

Excellent. Thank you.

You have to love it when everything find its way into line and the angels start singing. That cool dry air we had this week didn’t hurt. Perfect wind chop is also a difficult temptation to resist and my wife knows it well enough now to lean over and tell me, “I think you need to blow some of this stale gas out of this thing.” So I stop and toss the anchor of course.

Tom, she’s making a lot of power. I would say 575+ to get that out of her.
|
A 27 Mirage might even get you bumping on 80. That’s flying!

I have optional 3 blade, 27P, Mirage plus that are supposed to be the top speed props (allowing the engines to achieve higher rpms...closer to their design max)...BUT as it is right now, I'm PLEASED with the package. I will say, 1 hour of playing...4 hours of flushing/cleaning/etc... :-) |

As I get more comfortable, I will try to fully document/baseline the #s/performance (rpm/mph, etc...)

With some time behind the wheel, I’ll bet you can start sneaking up on 80. A shorter lower would get you there too... if you really got the speed bug going. You’ve really got me wanting to build my 600’s! And yes... one hour of fun equals hours of cleaning. Personally, I don’t mind it much. I crank up the tunes and get to work. |

Tom, what if you put it on youtube then post the link or embed it in your post?
