Wet floor - 87 272 SR1
 

Hello!

A couple of times (after rain) I have had a wet floor from under stairs in the cabin on my 272. I am thinking it is coming from the covered space in the cockpit. There is a large fiberlass "lid" in the center of the cockpit floor that has old, dried silicone over it.

I am hoping this is all fiberglass inside and doesnt have wood in it that has gotten rotten.

Can anyone tell me what is under there? I plan to remove the lid, dry out whatever is in there, if it is wet, and reseal.

I am assuming it is the fuel tank, but curious until I get it up.

Any ideas?

Smoke just mentioned a common issue with Windshield gaskets?

I get water here, from my bilge. on my 2001 292. I don't know if you also have a drain in there, but it's a 1/2" drain plug I think if it's missing.

I plugged both ends of it (1 under step, 1 in engine bay) and it now gets a lot less water.

Since it was easier than dealing w/120v at my lift.

I had water coming in my boat. Someone replaced the rub rail and siliconed under the rail but didnt seal any of the screw holes. New or old. Also it can come from the front bow cleat if there is water in any of the other storage holes. It could be the hatches and gaskets are available for them. For the windshield I got a good gasket from Lowes that fit nice and my cuddy is nice and dry this year. And i know because he have had huge rain storms for 3 days

I really appreciate the advice and opinions. I am not sure yet what it it, I get very little water in the bilge, from what i have seen. The water comes from under the step, against the tank area. I am not getting it anywhere else. I took the lid up, and the foam in there is wet. I dont know if it is open all the way into the bilge, or if It has drain holes that should empty into the bilge? I am going to heck for a plug under the stairs, clean this all up and put it back and reseal.

No drains. When I had this issue after first getting mine I used a small shop vac to get the water out.

I use a shop vac to remove, but would like to know why I get it. My brother has an identical boat, and he says it happens when it rains and it isnt covered. He says it leaks around the cabin door/hatch.

Start with what everyone has suggested. Make sure your windshield is sealed and screws are tight is my first suggestion.
